Hello. How are you? I am fine. What is your name? My name is Steven. #introduceyourself
Note: Anyone who gets the reference in the headline wins one million points. Points may or may not be worth anything. (OK, fine -- they're definitely not worth anything).
Anyway, hi. I'm Steven Wyble and this is my first post on Steemit. I've worked as a professional journalist and content marketer for the past six years, and I'm excited to delve into the exciting new world of Steemit.
To be honest, I'm not quite sure what I'm going to be writing about on here. But I'm intrigued by the notion of a crypto-currency-fueled blogging platform. From what I've seen so far, it appears a pretty tight-knit community is beginning to take shape on this platform, and I hope to be a part of it.
My interests are eclectic and numerous. I'll outline a few of them.
I'm a literary science fiction nerd. I was obsessed with Isaac Asimov as a teenager (I even have a portrait of him hanging up in my apartment. Really! Just look at the photo below), and I'm becoming obsessed with Philip K. Dick as an adult (which probably says something about how my view of the world has changed as I've aged). I like trippy movies, like those written by Charlie Kaufman or Christopher Nolan. But I'm beginning to appreciate television more than film. Current favorites include Game of Thrones, Brooklyn 99, Better Call Saul, Westworld, New Girl and Fargo. (There's many, many more but those are the ones that come to mind).
I love to write, as evidenced by my chosen profession. And although I've worked as a news reporter for most of my professional life, I'd love to find time to work on more creative endeavors. I have a list of literally dozens of projects I'd like to complete in the near future. Most of them are ideas for novels, although there are a few oddballs thrown in there, such as a jukebox musical and a television pilot. We'll see what happens with all that -- perhaps I'll experiment with serializing a novel or two on Steemit.
I have written a book, titled "Metacognition and other stories and poems of science, faith and the supernatural." It's not great. It's a collection of short stories and poems I wrote mostly in high school and college. Mostly, I wanted to experiment with self-publishing, as I'd recently discovered print-on-demand publishing platform Lulu.com. Designing the book myself was probably more fun than writing the content.
Speaking of self-publishing, that's another interest of mine. Once I get one of the aforementioned novels written, I'll probably self-publish it. In fact, that's likely one of the topics I'll be writing about on Steemit: my experiences attempting to self-publish professional-looking books. My hope is that other authors considering self-publishing can learn from my mistakes and successes.
You can probably deduce from the above that I am a complete and utter bibliophile. I love books, whether I'm reading them, writing them, or just holding them in my hands (and maybe bringing them up to my nose for a discrete sniff every now and then). If you love books, no matter the subject matter, we'll probably get along splendidly.
I live in Washington state with my wife and our dog. Just kidding, we don't have a dog. Perhaps I'll get her to start writing on Steemit as well if I have good experiences!
Anyway, pardon my stream-of-consciousness style. I had no idea how to introduce myself so I'm just winging it. I hope you'll bear with me and check out some of my writing as I get more active on Steemit. Take care!
Oh, and in case you're wondering, here's what the headline is from.

Steem On, welcome to Steemit!
You and my step dad would get on well. He is a science fiction nerd too. Must have a read 10,000 books.
Impressive. I wish I'd read that many books. Seems like there's never enough time to read.
Hi @swyble
Glad to see another talented writer and intellect join the Steemit fold. I can almost see your success here in Steem. Just a few hours and your introduction has already reached $72.55 as I write this (wow!) . With that said,
Here are some tips I learned in my journey that can help you fast track your success here.
The most important is to be be realistic, this is not a get rich quick scheme. Steem maybe valuable someday and your small steem account can be significant one day. Patience is Key.
Write for what you like and make regular posts but no more than 2 posts per day maximum. Just write what you are passionate about, reply to people who comment on your post and always accept criticism may it be good or bad.
Make friends with other users, especially people with the same interest. Learn more with them, contribute ideas and make this community great.
Have fun, take it as a side hobby and if you are doing great then consider making it a career ( but only when it really makes it big) .Try to post short but interesting articles, and more importantly do not copy from others or copy here your posts that you have in your own blog. Uniqueness in your articles is Key.
About me. I Post, comment, upvote, resteem and join discussions on a wide array of topics mainly Cryptocurrency, Health, Tech, Life and Steem Topics. If you are interested in any of these and will post articles like this I'd like to join and chime in to add value to your content and maybe resteem them for more exposure. If you think that's a good idea please follow me at @frost04 and let me know so I can follow you back if you are interested. As you may know or ( eventually know ) in Steem, community is everything and having more friends to share your thoughts and ideas will go a long way.
Looking forward to your posts!
Good luck and welcome to Steem. Cheers!
