Lo sapevate che i vostri, i nostri, gusti musicali si formano intorno ai 13 anni?
Quanti di voi hanno rinnegato le canzoni ascoltate durante l'adolescenza e quanti possono dire di esserne fieri? Il New York Times ha condotto un'analisi riguardante la relazione tra hit e gusti musicali in base all'età. Ciò è stato possibile grazie alla mole di dati offerti da Spotify.

La differenza tra uomo e donna è minima

Secondo la ricerca, per gli uomini, il periodo più importante e decisivo per la formazione del gusto musicale è tra 13 e 16 anni. Le donne sono come sempre più precoci e probabilmente hanno ascoltato la prima canzone preferita all'età di 13 anni. Il New York Times ha analizzato tutte le canzoni comparse sulla classifica di Billboard tra il 1960 e il 2000. Tra le canzoni prese ad esempio, una è balzata subito agli occhi: la bellissima Creep dei Radiohead, risultata essere la più popolare tra gli uomini di 38 anni (che, guarda caso, avevano 14 anni al momento del lancio nel 1993).

Chi scrive aveva 13 anni nel 2001, sono andata su YouTube a riguardami le hit di quell'anno per rispolverare la mia memoria (non ferrea) ed ho addosso una sensazione nostalgico-euforica. Solo dopo aver scritto questo articolo e aver fatto mente locale sui miei gusti di oggi, ho capito che forse c'è davvero un nesso. Prima di tutto ho notato di avere, da sempre, una vera passione per le canzoni deprimenti. E' vero che la musica importata in quegli anni era quasi esclusivamente dance e pop, ho amato alcune di quelle canzoni, amavo ballare e cantare davanti allo specchio con la mia sorellina. Ero una tredicenne come tante altre. Ma a colpirmi veramente erano quelle canzoni un po' più serie, che mi portavano a pensare, magari a qualche dramma d'amore (ma che drammi avrò mai potuto avere???!).

Vi lascio la mia personale classifica, in forma di top 10 di gradimento straniera e italiana. PS: ho cercato di essere il più sincera possibile con me stessa ☺

Effettivamente Hero mi piace ancora moltissimo. Posso affermare che le canzoni dalla prima alla settima posizione rientrerebbero tranquillamente in una mia ipotetica playlist di preferite odierne. Avevo solo 13 anni, eppure mi piacciono ancora!

Se per le straniere sono riuscita a salvare fino alla sesta posizione, per le italiane la questione è più critica. Erano gli anni di Mtv e non ascoltavo altra musica, non avevo ancora comprato il mio primo CD. Queste erano le hit che passavano in TV tutto il santo giorno, era difficile non farsele piacere. Malgrado la mia passione per i Tiromancino non sia mai tramontata, ho iniziato poco dopo ad amare il cantautorato italiano. Salvo le prime 3 canzoni per la mia ipotetica playlist di preferite!

Did you know that yours, ours, musical taste form around 13 years of age?
How many of you are in denial of the songs heard and loved during adolescence and how many can say they are proud of? The New York Times conducted an analysis about the relationship between hits and musical taste based on age. That was possible thanks to the amount of data offered by Spotify.

The difference between man and woman is minimal

According to the research, for men, the most important and decisive period for the formation of musical taste is between 13 and 16 years. Women are increasingly precocious and have probably listened to their first favorite song at the age of 13. The New York Times analyzed all the songs that appeared on the Billboard charts between 1960 and 2000. Among the songs taken as an example, one caught the attention of the researchers: the beautiful Creep, by Radiohead, turned out to be the most popular among men of 38 years (which, coincidentally, were 14 years old at the time of its launch in 1993).

Who's writing was 13 years old in 2001. I checked on YouTube to rewatch the hits of that year and brush up my not-so-reliable memory, and now I have a nostalgic-euphoric feeling. Only after wri-ting this article, and thinking carefully about my own taste, I realized that perhaps there is a real link. First of all, I noticed that I have always had a real passion for depressing songs. Truth be told, the music imported in those years was almost exclusively dance and pop: I loved some of those songs and I loved to dance and sing in front of the mirror with my little sister. I was a thirteen years old like many others. The ones which really left a mark, though, were a bit more serious, which led me to fantasize something akin to love drama (at such an age, what drama could I ever have???!).

I'll leave you with my personal ranking, in the form of a top 10 of foreign and Italian songs.

I have to admit that I still like Hero a lot. Actually, the songs comprised between the first and the seventh position would still run in a hypothetical playlist of actual favorite songs. I was only 13, and I still love those songs!

I managed to save foreign songs up to the sixth position, but wit Italian songs the situation is mo-re critical. Those were the years of MTV and I didn't have any other mean to listen to music, in fact I had not yet bought my first CD. These were the hits that went on TV all day long, so it was hard not to like them. Actually, my love for Tiromancino has never faded, and I started shortly af-ter to love Italian songwriting. I would save the first 3 songs for my hypothetical all-time favorite playlist!
