๐ฟ EcoTracker Update โ Smarter Publishing, Better Data, Cleaner UI
Since the first announcement, we have been working hard on EcoTracker and a significant update is now live. Here is a rundown of everything that changed.
๐ Choose What to Include in Your Post
One of the most requested features was control over what data gets published. The activity summary screen now shows all recorded stats as interactive tiles โ tap any tile to include or exclude it from your post.
By default everything is selected, but you can deselect whatever you prefer to keep private:

- โฌ๏ธ โฌ๏ธ Elevation gain and loss
- โ๏ธ Net elevation
- ๐๏ธ Min / ๐๏ธ Max altitude

- ๐ฑ COโ saved
- ๐ณ Trees equivalent
- ๐ Start coordinates
- ๐ GPS point count
Selected tiles are highlighted with a green border so you always know what will end up in the post. Deselected tiles are still visible in the app โ they just won't be published.
๐ค Publish Later โ With Full Control
If you saved an activity without publishing, or if you want to publish on a different blockchain later, you can now do it directly from your History screen.
Tapping the chain button (๐ข S for Steem, ๐ก H for Hive, ๐ B for Blurt) on any unpublished activity opens the full post screen, pre-loaded with all the saved data:
- All stats are shown and selectable, just like at the end of an activity
- The comment and photos from the original activity are displayed in read-only mode
- The target blockchain is pre-selected and locked โ no accidental double-posting
- A Cancel button lets you go back without publishing โ you can always do it later
If a post was already published on a chain, tapping its button opens the post directly in the browser instead.
๐ผ๏ธ Photo Upload โ More Reliable
Photo uploads have been significantly improved:
- Automatic resize before upload โ portraits and landscapes are handled correctly, EXIF rotation is fixed automatically, and images are compressed to a sensible size without visible quality loss
- Retry / Skip dialog if an upload fails โ you can retry the same photo or skip it and continue with the others
- Delay between uploads to avoid overloading the server when sending multiple photos
- Up to 5 photos per activity, with the first shown at the top of the post and the rest at the bottom
๐ป Guest Mode
Not ready to connect a blockchain account? You can now use EcoTracker as a guest:
- GPS tracking works fully
- All stats are calculated and displayed
- Saving and publishing are disabled
- A clear warning is always visible so there is no confusion
๐จ UI Improvements
Several visual and usability tweaks across the app:
- Chain buttons now use the characteristic color of each blockchain โ green for Steem, yellow for Hive, orange for Blurt โ both on the login screen and on the publish screen
- Multi-chain publishing now uses checkboxes instead of a single selector โ you can publish to Steem, Hive and Blurt simultaneously in one go
- The activity summary screen is more compact, with a tighter grid layout that fits more data without scrolling
- The History screen layout is fixed โ title and tab bar are now correctly positioned on all Android devices, including those with gesture navigation
- The Discard button changes appearance in republish mode โ less aggressive styling since you are not losing any data, just cancelling a publish action
- The Save & Publish button clearly shows the current action: ๐พ for a new save, ๐ค for a republish
๐ฅ Download Your GPX
From the History screen you can download the GPX file of any activity and open it in any compatible app โ Strava, Komoot, OsmAnd, Google Maps, and many others.
๐ What Is Coming Next
Rewards are still being defined, but the structure is clear:
- Daily, weekly and monthly prizes for the users with the most kilometres
- Random draw among all users who uploaded at least one activity in the period โ so everyone has a chance regardless of distance
- More activity types beyond walking and cycling
