Ciao a tutti amici e amiche di Italy e di Steemit.
Negli ultimi giorni si è parlato molto del calo dell’hashrate di Bitcoin, spesso raccontato come un segnale negativo o addirittura come una capitolazione dei miner.
Questa volta però, il calo non è nato da problemi strutturali del network, ma da una forte tempesta invernale negli Stati Uniti, soprattutto in Texas, una delle aree con la più alta concentrazione di mining. (Rif.)
Il freddo estremo ha fatto esplodere la domanda di elettricità per il riscaldamento e i gestori delle reti hanno chiesto ai grandi consumatori industriali, inclusi i miner, di ridurre temporaneamente i consumi per evitare blackout.
Molti operatori hanno spento volontariamente le macchine.
Con i prezzi dell’energia alle stelle, continuare a minare non era economicamente sensato.
Ed è qui che Bitcoin mostra una delle sue caratteristiche più interessanti. Lo so, sono di parte!
Insomma, quando l’hashrate scende, il protocollo regola automaticamente la difficoltà. I blocchi rallentano per un po’, poi la difficoltà si abbassa e il sistema torna in equilibrio.
È vero: un hashrate più basso riduce leggermente la potenza che protegge la rete.
Ma la distribuzione geografica del mining resta ampia e durante questo evento non sono emersi rischi concreti per la sicurezza. La rete non si è mai fermata!
Anzi, secondo me, questo episodio rafforza un punto spesso ignorato: i miner non sono solo consumatori, ma anche strumenti di bilanciamento, capaci di spegnersi quando serve e tornare operativi quando le condizioni migliorano.
Insomma, la rete non si è fermata, non ci sono stati rischi concreti per la sicurezza e, con il miglioramento delle condizioni, i miner stanno già tornando online.
Un evento legato al meteo, non un problema strutturale!
Credo sia chiaro che Bitcoin assorbe gli shock poi si adatta e va avanti!

In recent days, there has been a lot of talk about the decline in Bitcoin’s hashrate, often described as a negative signal or even as miner capitulation.
This time, however, the drop was not caused by structural problems in the network, but by a severe winter storm in the United States, especially in Texas, one of the areas with the highest concentration of mining activity. (Ref.)
Extreme cold drove electricity demand for residential heating sharply higher, and grid operators asked large industrial consumers, including miners, to temporarily reduce their energy usage to avoid blackouts.
Many operators voluntarily shut down their machines.
With energy prices skyrocketing, continuing to mine simply wasn’t economically sensible.
And this is where Bitcoin shows one of its most interesting features - yes, I know, I’m biased!
When hashrate drops, the protocol automatically adjusts the mining difficulty. Block production slows for a while, then difficulty decreases and the system returns to balance.
It’s true that a lower hashrate slightly reduces the amount of energy securing the network.
But mining remains geographically distributed, and during this event no concrete security risks emerged. The network never stopped running.
In my opinion, this episode highlights a point that is often overlooked: miners are not just energy consumers, but also grid-balancing tools, able to shut down when needed and come back online when conditions improve.
In short, the network kept running, there were no real security issues, and as conditions improve, miners are already returning online.
A weather-related event, not a structural problem.
I think it’s clear that Bitcoin absorbs shocks, adapts, and keeps moving forward.
