Today we were discussing preparations for Christmas and New Year's Eve dinner at home. It's not easy to agree on everything because we're a large family. I don't give my opinion much because cooking isn't my strong suit. I'm the one in charge of the gift exchange and different activities to keep us entertained.

My sister is in charge of the kitchen. She's a good cook. On that day, we usually have a traditional dish from my country for dinner: hallaca, chicken salad, pork leg, and the delicious ham bread that I love. The tradition is practically the same every year. We set up a long table on the porch of the house to have dinner, even though we can't all fit around it.

Dinner is served at exactly midnight. My mother, who is still lucid, gives thanks. My brother-in-law always complains about the dinner time; he has never liked this tradition because it is very late, but it is a tradition we have had for years. It is not always the same, but the important thing is to share these moments as a family.

At the table, the one who never changes seats is my mother, as she is the matriarch of the family. She is 88 years old. The other seats are arranged according to when people arrive. Not everyone can attend my mother's house every year due to their own family commitments. Let's hope that this year they can come and share New Year's Eve dinner.
