Not Suspect, Often Stomach Pain Turns Out Cancer Neuroblastoma

Enya only considered Cayla's complaint just because she didn't want to go to bed soon.

Finally E took Cayla to the nearest doctor after several weeks of saying the same complaint. Doctors prescribe antibiotics because they think Cayla's condition is caused by a urinary tract infection. But after a week of taking antibiotics in early July 2018, Cayla's condition did not improve until Enya took her back to the doctor. At this stage, the doctor begins to feel a lump in a place that is not supposed to be on Cayla's stomach.

"The doctor then called his colleagues and mentioned the possibility of a hernia or appendicitis. I was very sad when I received the diagnosis and development of Cayla cancer. But as a parent, we must be strong so that Cayla is also not afraid of treatment," said Enya, who continues to accompany Cayla's therapy, while caring his second son Finnley.

According to the results of the inspection of the Bristol Children's Hospital, Cayla experienced level four neuroblastoma. Neuroblastoma is a rare cancer that develops from neuroblasts or immature nerve cells in children. This type of cancer found in about 100 children in the UK each year is commonly found in the adrenal glands near the kidneys, neck, chest, abdomen and pelvis. Symptoms of this disease are pain in the affected part, fatigue, weakness, easily injured skin, difficulty breathing and swallowing.

The cause of neuroblastoma is not yet known. The scan on Cayla states the cancer has spread to the diaphragm muscles and lymph nodes in the neck. Level four indicates that cancer cells have spread to several parts of the body. But Enya is grateful that cancer cells are not spread to Cayla bones. That is, chemotherapy can be done immediately without waiting for the surgery to clear the cancer cells from the bone first.

Chemotherapy is planned to be carried out 8 times for 70 days. The first action was carried out on July 19, 2018. Cayla also carried out an operation for 8 hours which succeeded in eliminating cancer as much as 80 percent. Even so, Enya saw positive developments in her daughter after receiving treatment.

"Cayla is more cheerful, beautiful, and her appetite is better than before being treated. I am happy to see her getting healthier," Enya said.

At present, Cayla is still going back and forth to the hospital for routine control, action, or follow-up examinations. Enya and her husband Brad Jones also raised funds to meet medical needs, as well as vaccines to prevent cancer from attacking Cayla again.
