本日紹介するのは日本のビールである「サッポロラガービール」です。

普段みなさんがよく目にする黒ラベルとラベルが違うのがお分かりなるでしょうか。

このサッポロラガービールはラベル正面に見える星から名前を取り、「赤星」と呼ばれています。

赤星の歴史は、サッポロビールの歴史でもあります。今から140年前、1876年にサッポロビールは開拓使麦酒醸造所として開業しました。そこで、翌1877年に誕生したビールが「札幌ビール」。現在の「サッポロラガービール」です。 ラベルの赤い星は、サッポロビールのルーツである北海道の開拓使のシンボル、北極星。いつからか「赤星」という愛称で親しまれ、 飲食店の瓶ビールとして飲み継がれてきました。 赤星は、日本で最も歴史のあるビールブランドとして、長く愛され続けています。

黒ラベルの前身となったビールの生まれは1957年なので、赤星はかなり伝統のあるビールといえます。

・黒ラベルとの違いは？？
赤星は熱処理で殺菌加工をしているところが特徴です。いわゆる生ビールは非熱処理です。お店で「生ビール！」と注文してしまいがちですが、今日では樽生はもちろん缶ビールもほとんど非熱処理を施した生ビールです。昔は冷蔵庫が発達していなかったために熱処理が主流でしたが、技術革新や冷蔵庫の家庭への普及によって非熱処理が主流となったのです。

加えて特徴として赤星は大ビンと中ビンだけでしかありません。昔お店で手酌で飲まれていた伝統を大事にしているようです。またサッポロビールの戦略として黒ラベルを大衆向け、赤星は広告を出さずに「知る人ぞ知る」サッポロとマーケティングしているようです。
赤星を知っているとすこし人に自慢できるかもしれませんね！
