New Mexico Judge Receives Threats
Source: rt.com
Judge Sarah Backus recently granted bail for four adults pending their upcoming trial. The suspects were being held after they were discovered in a compound where officials also found a cache of weapons, 11 children suffering from malnutrition and the remains of a child. They are being charged with giving terror training to the children.
The compound was discovered when officials were searching for a missing boy, Abdul Ghani Wahhaj. The remains found on the compound were those of the missing boy. The adults arrested were Siraj ibn Wahhaj (the deceased boy's father), Jany Leveille (the deceased boy's mother), Hujrah and Subhannah (sisters of the wife) and Lucas Morten. Bail was granted for all but Morten, he was ineligible for bail because he has an outstanding kidnapping charge pending in Georgia. The bail granted by the judge was $20,000 for the 4 others.
Once the news was made public, their was an immediate outcry due to the judge's ruling. The court officials in response reiterated that the judge was duty bound to make a decision based on the law, not according to public opinion based on incomplete information. At the hearing, the child's death was allegedly due to a Islamic ceremony aimed at chasing demonic spirits out. The weapons and training were so that the children would be able to defend the compound against a raid.
The judge sided with the objection raised by the defense lawyers alleging that the prosecution were treating the suspects unfairly because they are Muslim, they stated that if the accused were of the Christian faith "nobody would bat an eye over the idea of faith healing". They also raised the argument that the firearms stockpile was protected under their constitutional right.
The defense's arguments and the judge's decision were found to be so spurious and their logic so vacuous that the judge has allegedly received death threats.

Justice in America is just a little warped. Maybe the laws are just too convoluted.
If they were Christian and accused of a death of a child and failure to report the death, and the death was a result of "faith healing", the charges would be at a minimum manslaughter and had bail denied. Always fun being an American.
Thank you for the comment. This judge and the defense attorneys are so far off base.
