The missed opportunity

A group of animals were asked, how many times will something happen to them and they would learn?

One said once, the other said twice, the other said three times and all manner of numbers. Then the tortoise was asked how many times will something happen to him before he learns from it and he said that something doesn’t need to happen to him before he learns from it.

He said as it’s happening to his neighbor, he will learn from his neighbors experience. Isnt that some wisdom there.

Well, this period, I have really been learning a lot and one prayer I keep making as I see something’s happening around me is the prayer for mercy. I always ask God to show me mercy.

Really, recently I have watched two people close to me loose opportunities that are a life time opportunity due to lack of wisdom, capacity and character problem. These experiences made me shudder and I couldn’t help but wonder.

I know I am not better then these people and somehow they don’t even seem to know what they’ve lost but just by being around them, I see a lot of what’s going on around them and I was really scared.

It could be me. One lost the opportunity of someone she was working with from the USA just because of sentiments. I was so taken aback and yet she couldn’t bring herself to be humble enough to make amends.

Pride is a dangerous thing and most of us have pride and we don’t even know it. It’s one thing to know you are wrong and yet another thing to humble yourself and make amends.

I watched these two people spoil a God given opportunity and yet didn’t get to say as much as I am sorry.

I was heart broken on their behalf and somehow, I was wishing I could reachout to them but my hands are tied. Maybe if I had seen a ray that they were willing to humbly make amends, then that would have been a great place to start from.

I pray my the mercies of God that I do not respect these same mistakes. It’s better to learn from other peoples mistakes than from one’s experience.

The story of the turtle and the other animals is a truly wonderful metaphor. Many people around us do not learn from their mistakes, but the wise thing is to learn from the mistakes of others and learn from their own lives. It is really painful to see the two people you mentioned losing such a big opportunity in front of our eyes. I think the biggest crisis arises when a person does not even realize what he has lost or where he was lacking. Pride or ego creates a wall that prevents people from admitting their mistakes. It is really regrettable to see from the outside how many big relationships and possibilities are ruined due to not being able to say these few words, sorry or I apologize. Like you, I also believe that it is a great maturity to put yourself on the stand in such a situation and be aware of your own inner pride and shortcomings. This self-persecution after seeing others' fall and the prayer to maintain humility before the Almighty are what actually save people from major disasters. At the end of the day, none of us is above making mistakes, but the mindset of being able to learn from mistakes and correct ourselves is what makes the real difference. 😊
