I Fixed My Own Light After Almost One Year!

So, for almost one year now, the bulb in my room and the one outside stopped working.

I had been chasing two electricians with calls, asking them to come and check them out. They kept promising they were coming, but one promise turned into another until I eventually gave up on them.

Normally, I like fixing things. It is one of the caps I wear — I genuinely enjoy figuring out how things work and trying to fix them myself.

Initially, I casually tried to fix the light, but I wasn't really determined. I had an idea of what I thought the problem might be, but after checking it, I discovered that wasn't actually the issue.

Yesterday, however, I was determined to get the one in my room working.

I bought a new bulb, dismantled the lamp holder and carefully checked everything inside it. And that's when I finally discovered what the actual problem was.

I fixed it successfully!

I was so sure it was going to work that I was already looking forward to switching it on and admiring my handiwork.

Unfortunately, there was one small problem...

There was no electricity.

They took the light yesterday afternoon and didn't bring it back until this afternoon.

As soon as power was restored, I put on the bulb — and it worked perfectly! 🙌

I can't even lie, I was proud of myself. 😂

If those electricians had eventually come to fix it, I probably wouldn't have spent less than ₦2,000–₦3,000.

And that's not all.

I also checked the light outside and discovered that the lamp holder had completely gone bad. It was even rusty.

So, my next project is to buy a new lamp holder and a new bulb and see if I can fix that one too.

Something I Realized About Myself

This experience reminded me of something about myself: I really enjoy fixing things.

And fixing things doesn't always mean electrical repairs. There are quite a number of things I can figure out and do on my own without supervision.

Sometimes, we have natural abilities that we don't even recognize as skills because they come so easily to us.

So, I'm curious:
