ALTERNATIVE DELIVERY MODE DURING CALAMITIES

Last month, we were so unfortunate and was able to experience two calamities in a month. In the early days of October, the tremendous high magnitude hit athe northern part of CEBU. And because of that most of the places of Cebu was able to feel it but not as strong as where it hit. Good thing it happened at night wherein there were no class. Because of that tragedy, the government declared suspension of classes until further notice. But because there were lots of aftershocks, school heads as well as the government decided to continue the suspension especially a strong typhoon Tino will enter the PAR. And yes, it really entered and most of the places of Cebu has many damage. In fact there were lots of people died because of flood. For the netizens to clean the houses and relax because of the traumatic experience, suspension of classes continue and we just had an Alternative Delivery Mode wherein we will be giving some modules and activities for the students to answer at home.

Indeed, School play a very important role in making sure that the learning of the students still continues even during calamities. When face-to-face classes will be suspended for some safety reason and that is ADM comes in. ADM is so important in trying times like this.

One of the most commonly used ADM approaches is "modular approach" wherein teachers will be preparing some printed modules especially in primary level or digital modules wherein the module will be send via online. If possible and available, teachers will also send some video tutorial so that they will understand better. Students were given enough time to accomplish it provided that the teachers will monitor there outputs everyday. The teacher will monitor the porgress through text messages, group chats or calls. This strategy help the students to work independently.
Another type of ADM is online approach but it is not commonly used especially I am teaching in a public school wherein not all learners have gadget to use and internet connection. The teacher in this mode will conduct a virtual class, send video lessons and provide real-time feedback. For areas wherein there is a limited connection, radio-based or TV-based intruction will took place.
What we experienced here is so hard but thank God, slowly we were able to rise up and it slowly went back to normal yet there were still aftershocks. But we know for sure that everything happens for a reason.
