My yesterday's Sunday Breakfast [28-12-2025]
It was a lazy Sunday morning, yesterday 28th December, 2025 still in the spirit of Christmas, and my family and I were still basking in the warmth and joy of the holiday season. As we lounged around the house, the aroma of a delicious breakfast wafted through the air, teasing our taste buds and building our anticipation.
I had decided to cook a traditional Nigerian breakfast, consisting of rice and stew, a classic comfort food that never fails to hit the spot. As I began to prepare the meal, my family gathered around the kitchen, watching with interest as expertly chopped, sautéed, and seasoned the ingredients.
First, I started by cooking the rice to perfection. I carefully measured out the right amount of water, added a pinch of salt, and brought it to a boil. As the rice cooked, the kitchen was filled with the sweet, starchy aroma that signaled that breakfast was almost ready.

Once the rice was cooked, I filtered it and set it aside, ready to be served. Next, I began to prepare the stew, the crowning glory of our Sunday breakfast. I started by heating some groundnut oil in a large pot over medium heat. The oil sizzled and crackled as it warmed up, releasing its rich, nutty aroma into the air.

Next, I added the chopped onions, garlic, and ginger to the pot, sautéing them until they were soft and fragrant. The smell of the aromatics wafting through the kitchen was incredible, and my family's stomachs growled in anticipation. After the onions were softened, I added the chopped meat and fish to the pot, stirring to coat them evenly with the oil and spices. The meat and fish sizzled and browned, releasing their juices and flavours into the pot.
As the meat and fish cooked, I added the Maggi seasoning, salt, and a blend of fresh and sachet tomatoes to the pot. The tomatoes added a burst of juicy sweetness to the stew, balancing out the savory flavours of the meat and spices.
Next I added some chopped fresh peppers to the pot, stirring to combine. The peppers added a pop of colour and a touch of heat to the stew, rounding out the flavours and textures. As the stew simmered and reduced, the flavours melded together in a rich, savory harmony. My family and I couldn't wait to dig in and enjoy the fruits of my labour.
Finally, the moment of truth arrived. I ladled the stew over the cooked rice, and we sat down to enjoy our Sunday breakfast together. The first bite was like a symphony of flavours on our tongues, the tender meat and fish, the rich, slightly sweet stew, and the fluffy, slightly sticky rice all combined to create a truly unforgettable breakfast experience.
As we ate, we chatted and laughed, enjoying each other's company and the warm, comforting atmosphere of our Sunday breakfast together. It was a truly special moment, one that we would cherish for a long time to come.
