The Diary Game: How I Spend My Saturday 20/12/2025
Hello, long time. Welcome to my diary.
A lot has happened since my last post.
It's been one month since I put to bed. My mom came around for Omugwo, this is a tradition in Nigeria where mothers or an elderly woman comes to take care of a new mom.
Usually, it's to teach her how to bathe, feed, and take care of her newborn baby.
It's also a period they help this new mom get some rest and will only be needed to breastfeed the baby and eat.
and my mom had to travel back to her residence at Umuahia today to prepare for her village trip.
I lost my father in July, we buried him in October but she still has some things she had to complete this based on our tradition. So I quickly prepared jollof rice she could eat and take some home too.
The past few weeks have taught me:
- That motherhood is learned, not gifted.
- It's okay to reach out for help
- To be more compassionate to mothers.
- To let people help me when they offer.
- To take a break, I can't be a superwoman all the time.
Often, my daughter wants to be carried around.
Want to be fed every minutes.
Fussy most part of that day.
Needs attention or cries down the house.
Do I have any option than to do her bidding.
I'm honestly grateful, for ways I've had to improvise a lot of things.
- Feeding her and working.
- Holding her with the left and working with my right hand.
- Making good use of the time when she's asleep to do some tasks around the house.
After my mom left, I had a serious headache trying to get used to the fact that she had to leave.
I took the free time I had while my baby was sleeping to do the laundry and the dishes.
It was already evening by the time I was done with all of these.
By then, my baby was awake. I fed her and went on to do some work on my phone for my client.
I bathed her by 7pm, and tried to get her to sleep which was a bit difficult. Finally, she left off by 10 pm after stressing me out.
Nevertheless, I was able to get everything done. I only pray that God gives me strength.
