Getting Puffin Island Alone Can Be Tough

This was a photograph that I wanted for a long time. When photographing Puffin Island from the land, it's hard to properly separate it from the foreground. But from the air, you can give it the space it needs. The lonely Skellig Islands are visible on the horizon, with Lemon Rock making an appearance off to the left.

Sunrise and sunset are very special times of the day and can be particularly appealing when the weather is unsettled. It's important to arrive early, though, because what can be a marvellous light show can often end too soon.

On this particular evening, the sun disappeared behind the bank of cloud sitting on the horizon moments after I made this image, putting a premature end to the light show.
