Kleiner Weinschwärmer ■ Small elephant hawk-moth

Deilephila porcellus (Linnaeus, 1758)

Der kleine Weinschwärmer ist ein Nachtfalter aus der Familie der Schwärmer (Sphingidae). Der Falter fliegt auf Magerrasen und zahlreichen weiteren trockenen und blütenreichen Gebieten. Er ist Nacht- und Dämmerungsaktiv. Gerne saugt er im Flug an unterschiedlichen Blüten und kommt sogar an den Schmetterlingsflieder im heimischen Garten. Die Raupen fressen an echtem Labkraut (Galium mollugo) im verborgenen der Nacht. Tagsüber verstecken sie sich an der Pflanzenbasis ihrer Futterpflanze. Die Verpuppung erfolgt in der Oberschicht der Erde in einem lockeren Gespinst. Nach der Überwinterung schlüpft der Falter ab Mitte Mai und fliegt bis in den August. Mit dem Kiefernschwärmer zusammen gehört kleine Weinschwärmer zu den häufigsten unter den Schwärmern. Er ist derzeit in seinem Bestand nicht gefährdet und kann noch regelmäßig nachgewiesen werden.

The small elephant hawk-moth is a moth of the family of Sphingidae. The moth flies on meagre grasslands and numerous other dry and flower-rich areas. It is active at night and at dusk. It likes to suck on different flowers in flight and even comes across the butterfly bushes in its own garden. The caterpillars feed on real bedstraw (Galium mollugo) in the secret of the night. During the day they hide at the plant base of their forage plant. The pupation takes place in the upper layer of the earth in a loose web. After overwintering, the moth hatches in mid-May and flies into August. Together with the pine hawk, the small elephant hawk-moth is one of the most common hawks. It is currently not endangered and can still be regularly detected.

Diese Aufnahme zeigt den Falter in seiner vollen Pracht von der Seite. Möglich wurde dieses Bild durch einen Stack, bei dem ich 143 Bilder zu einer finalen Schärfeebene verrechnet habe. Nur so war es möglich den Falter aus kurzer Distanz durchgehend scharf abzulichten. Mit einer einzelnen Aufnahme ist ein Bild wie nachfolgend gezeigt technisch nicht möglich.

This photo shows the moth in their full splendour from the side. This image was made possible by a stack in which I calculated 143 images to a final focal plane. Only in this way it was possible to take sharp pictures of the moth from a short distance. With a single shot a picture as shown below is technically not possible.
