A Letter To My Lil' Sister

Dear Lil' Sis.

            We've been best of friends even better than the closest of best-friends that exist out there. You've always stayed close to my side and irrespective of the situation, you've always been there to take the heat for me, that's just one thing that keeps me wondering. One could hardly recognize the difference or the gap that exist between us in age because most times, you act like the eldest and other times, you go all the way to act like a baby.

We both know each other even better than we know ourselves. We clearly understand what the smiles and the frowns that we wear means. 

>The most amazing part of it all is that no matter the time and distance, we still feel and hear the unsaid words running through each other's hearts.

I've grown too used to having you close to me that I already forgot that a day will come when you won't have me next to you. The obviousness of this truth has made me realize that while fighting alongside you, I am supposed to teach you how to fight alone to win.*

I totally forgot that in life, there are battles no one can help you fight and burdens no one can carry for you. Though you are to shoulder it alone, that doesn't mean I won't be available to hold your hands and give you the most encouraging support any one can ever muster up. I'll always cheer for you and you alone.

>I forgot to teach you that a day will come when you don't have to wait for me to put a smile on your face but you'll need to search within and around you for reasons to smile knowing that directly or indirectly the thought of you being happy, is the secret to my own happiness.

Now I am so scared of the many things I should have taught you about life. It hurts so much realizing that instead of fighting all your battle for you, I should have taught you how to be the commander and heroine in your battle. 

Oh dearest sister, in a matter of months, you will be leaving to serve your country and Its heartbreaking knowing that I won't be there beside you as much as I would have loved. So listen and listen real good baby Sister and please understand that this words of mine are spiced with experience and it should serve as a compass to lead you through this period that you will be away from my sight:

>"No matter what you do, irrespective of your actions and in-actions, let God be first and Paramount in your life, never forget that God is your best defender in a strange land and Him alone knows the end from the beginning. Serve Him with all your heart and might."

You'll meet different types of people during your stay out there: some who claim that you occupy a special place in their heart, yet no value will ever be attached to you, others who don't even say how much the feel about you yet you feel so much love and care through their actions, also the ones you find yourself loving so much even when they give you nothing but hurt, pains and betrayal etc. My point here is, no matter what dearest sister, irrespective of the ones you meet, never do the following:

1. Never take for granted the heart that loves you genuinely.

2. Never love anyone or anything to the extent that you will end up loosing yourself respect and dignity as a woman.

3. Never bite the finger that feeds you.

4. Never say things about anyone behind them if you know you wouldn't be able to say it in front of them.

As much as you can try to do the following:

1. Love genuinely and if there's no space for love in your heart for any one, do not ever fake it.

2. Always put on a smiling countenance no matter how you feel. Your smile might just make a way for you.

3. Show appreciation for the little things in your life. There's a proverb where I come from that says: it is the little drops of rain that eventually fills a big drum. Thus, it doesn't matter the price of a gift you will receive, what matters is how much the gift means to the person who gives it to you. Treat it as if it were gold.

4. Respect the woman you are first and others will learn from you how to respect you.

>You have always had a dream of finding that one person who will be your knight in shining armor, someone who would sweep you off your feet by loving you more than I do just like in the movies. 

But here's my take on it:

1. Do not let appearance deceive you. Love a man because of his worth in character and his relationship with God.

2. Never use sex or your body to get a man to stay in a relationship with you or you will  have the same destiny with a "delicious meal". No matter how delicious a meal is, the only thing that meal enjoys is the admiration of the eyes and after that, it endures the crushing terror of the teeth, it soon loses all it nutrients to the consumer only to be  passed out as feces through the anus. So dear sister, any woman that uses her body to get a man, will only enjoy the admiration of the Man's eye (lust) after which he will  dry her up of her nutrients (self value and dignity) and sends (dumps) her out as feces for another meal (another girl). Let a man see that unique potential in you, it will help him treat you as his heart beat and  not his meal.

3. For the sake of the good ones, no matter what, always trust people for who the portray to the world to be, but while trusting, do not ever erase the possibility of being betrayed, that way, nothing will take you by surprise. This is because people change, people pretend, yet there are others who will love you more than your blood.

4. Never ever talk down or disrespect a man even if he is your employee or lower than you in status. A man will always be a man, no matter his position, age and achievement in life and his size of ego as a man never reduces. Women who learn on time to respect  men won't have a problem respecting their husbands or future husbands.

My love for you is absolutely limitless so please keep the following words in your heart:

1. Never forget that I am just a phone call/text message away... I will always be there for you.

2. I will never be too busy for you, neither will I run out of love for you.

3. I will run to your aid even on my wedding night.

4. Also, on days when you feel like you can't go on any more, run home to me and I will find you a million reasons why you can make it.
