My trip to Siquijor: Isla del Fuego
Siquijor, is a 5th provincial income class island province of the Philippines located in the Central Visayas Region. During the Spanish colonial period of the Philippines, the Spaniards called the island "Isla del Fuego" (Island of Fire). Siquijor is commonly associated with mystic traditions that the island's growing tourism industry capitalizes on.
On the 28th day of April 2018, I embarked on a journey towards the mystical Siquijor island located in the Philippines, alone. On the eve before I traveled, I couldn't contain my happiness that I get to sail alone and I couldn't sleep because of the euphoric feeling I had. After a few hours, time has come, the time I leave my hometown and journey to the place I found my self (which if you guys want I'd be glad to share with). My mother and father escorted me to the bus stop where there it was, the bus I ride alone, awaited for my arrival. I bid farewell to my parents then I got into the bus and then I settled myself, just at the corner, seated, waiting for other passengers to settle in.
The bus trip took more or less two hours before we reached the pier wherein we waited until our bus was loaded into the cargo barge. One by one the passengers got inside the barge, looking like zombies, tired and restless from the tiring trip, but me, nope, still alive, energetic, and as always, enthusiastic.
After a thirty-minute sail, we reached the other side of the pier where we went inside again the bus we took and continued on the yet long journey still ahead of me. After an hour of travel, the driver of the bus decided to make a stop at this one food chain in order to eat breakfast and so did the other passengers but as I was alone, I was afraid to spend a lot of money on food, because I'm a big eater so I just bought one pack of eggnog (essentially my breakfast) and just water. After a few minutes, the voyage continued.
After another hour of travel we finally reached our last bus stop only to be informed that the ticket for that days trip was fully booked. I was worried I had to sleep in the pier until the morning, but luckily, my big sis was in a nearby location, just two and a half hours of travel from the pier to where she is currently taking her On the Job Training ( she is in College by the way and I'm still a senior high student ). I slept there till morning then I headed on again back to the pier to get a ticket. Then, the next biggest trouble came, as the bus was approaching the pier, I saw no passengers, I ran hastily towards the guard and asked, "has the ship already sailed", the guard replied with a big, "No, but hurry up and get to the boat, it will be leaving in a few minutes". I ran towards the boat as fast as I could and because of the adrenaline rush, my heavy 4 kilo bag felt like a bag with air, luckily the ticket-er was aboard the boat so she let me buy a ticket on board and then I felt relief then I went to my bunker and rested for five hours straight.
And now, after all the hard work, it finally paid off, I reached my final destination, Siquijor. I rode the jeepney for an hour to my Grandmothers house, and there, I stayed, for two weeks. And it was a great experience in my part.
Life lesson: LIVE LIFE TO THE FULLEST. Dare yourself to do great things like what I did.
