Long Term Traveling is Our Goal

About half a year ago or so me and my partner Andrius have started discussing about all the most important things in life. We shared the same desire to be free of full time work commitments and free to travel and exploring the whole world. We felt constrained by having to commute to work, sit in the office for 8 hours a day staring at the computer screen, we both sometimes felt unappreciated by our employers and as a consequence unfulfilled (or unfulfilling our lives and deeper desires).

We started exploring the ways in which long term traveling would work for us. We started researching on HOWs. At the beginning a lot of time was taken up by reviewing YouTube channels of various travellers and TED talks of those who seemingly have already been living the dream. Inspiration and some answers to the obvious questions like ‘How can one afford traveling full time?’ or ‘How to earn money while traveling the World?’ seemed necessary to start planning. We gathered so many ideas and advices that it seemed impossible to remember. It actually all started with my tiny tiny notes in my Mac Notes app, but it was when the list got bigger and bigger with every day and it became harder to track the actions competed – I decided we could do with some more organisation. And so ‘The Travel Tracker’ was born.

All of the necessary information and links were stored in this in depth excel spreadsheet. It is not complicated but it is complex. Numerous tabs for numerous activities were set up to make sure all the steps are captured and in turn adequately support us in leading to the ‘Start of Adventure’ a.k.a. the first flight of the journey.

This ‘Travel Tracker’ will be changing it’s shape eternally, I believe, but for now the following tabs have been set up to help us plan the following –

Things to Do, Things to Sell/Buy, Travel Budgeting Tracker, Visa requirements, Vaccinations, The Ultimate Packing List.

I will build up on the above in my upcoming post.

Love,
Kristina

Yeah same thoughts I've had with my SO. All conversations eventually revolved around developed a stream of passive income to free up life to travel. Hope you end up achieving your goal!

Hi Orangeshere,

Thanks for your response! We have actually developed quite a plan and documenting all in traders and blogs. So getting there with our milestones, thanks! I will also be posting a thread of posts on this topic, so stay tuned if interested! :)

I would be very interested to hear how is going with you two. Do you have a plan? How do you envisage your independent travel? Did you have any ideas for freelancing?

P.S. We found it very effective to set ourselves a target day to keep things moving.

Cheers,
Kristina

Yes we do! Actually we'll both be working FT jobs later this summer (we're recent college grads) and plan to do this for 2 -3 years to save of some money and build potential opportunities. Then we have a plan to teach/work with friends in education abroad in China/Japan/Korea to immerse ourselves long term in different countries and of course exercise of passions for teaching. We plan to use teaching has a resource for not only exploring other cultures, but bringing what we know from around the world to the students we meet.

And yes, we've definitely thought about freelancing, though since both of our background are in finance/accounting, I'd imagine we'd aim for private accounting/consulting type roles wherever we are, haha. We're both super enthusiastic about creative pursuits like animation, woodwork, and art, but I don't think we're quite at that level where we could make a living off it. But time will tell!

Good luck on your travels! :)

How nice to hear that!
I was considering teaching in SEA too!
We will see where this year will take me :)

I can't wait to set out, but all in it's good time..

Thanks, and I hope to chat with you very soon.
