The sapiential teaching, along with the teaching of the prophets, and the teaching of the law of Moses constitute the entire spiritual body of the Sacred Scriptures, and each of these parts seeks to convey something different.
Like all the sapiential books, the Book of Proverbs teaches what spiritual education consists of. And this is not something easy or self-evident, because people who seek happiness at all costs are people who lack spiritual education, and they constantly fall into deceit and error, that is, they travel along difficult and dangerous paths. Spiritual education reduced to self-help books, to personal development books, leads people to accept beautiful lies that, in the long run, lead to nothing beneficial. The Bible, with its divine science and the teachings of the wise, in their famous books, like Solomon and Ben Sira, invites Bible readers to avoid the teaching of the error.
It is in the instruction of wisdom that the readers of the Bible find the necessary spiritual education, because it must be explained that wisdom is not related to happiness but to the preservation of life; those who practice error or sin are worshipping death and all that it brings. This is why the Book of Proverbs delivers this spiritual truth: "The one who gets wisdom loves life; the one who cherishes understanding will soon prosper" Proverbs 19:8.
This teaching from the Bible is fundamental because life and death are psychological drives that exist in the mind, beyond well-being or happiness. Those who love life and those who love death follow different paths. Hatred, envy, fury, and resentment are passions that respond to death, while faith, hope, and love of neighbor respond to life. Seeking wisdom is seeking life, because whoever lives with wisdom lives in harmony with the ethical laws of the universe. And this brings something more, and as wisdom orders everything, the good of peace arrives, and with it prosperity and abundance; wisdom blesses man in every way. Those who live in conflict with their neighbors sooner or later see their plans destroyed by unforeseen destructive events; spiritual blindness is an evil that destroys many lives, and wisdom, on the contrary, calls men to live in harmony with God.
