Camden resident celebrates 100 ‘amazing’ years

in #life7 years ago

Laura Dyer celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by family and friends at her own little patch of “paradise” on Sunday.

Mrs Dyer has only lived in Camden for the past six years but her daughter Wendy Paul said she loved living in the area.

“She can see the cows from her apartment – she loves the country setting,” Ms Paul said.

“She tells everyone that she lives in paradise.”

Mrs Dyer met the love of her life, Herbet Dyer, when she was just 16 years old.

They were married at 21 years of age and purchased an orchard in Poowong, Victoria.

Mr and Mrs Dyer have two children, Peter and Wendy, five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Despite her advanced age, Mrs Dyer lives independently and still does her own housework.

Ms Paul said her mother was ‘amazing’.

“She’s extremely with it,” she said.

“We joined the Oran Park Probus Club and they have all been fantastic.

“She has a group of the Probus ladies here every Thursday and teaches them how to create paper tole art (3D paper artworks).

“She used to play the organ and she is extremely crafty – anything she gets her hands on she can do.”

Ms Paul said her mother often inspired other people.

“She’s just got a very positive attitude,” she said.

“She’s always looking forward to something.”

So what is Mrs Dyer’s secret to reaching 100 years of age?

“She enjoys a treat every day and still makes her baked dinners with drippings,” Ms Paul said.

“She also doesn’t drink or smoke but she has really enjoyed herself.”....https://www.macarthuradvertiser.com.au/story/5358348/camden-resident-celebrates-100-amazing-years/?cs=1437
