Grateful To Be Alive - "We Have the World Beneath Our Feet"steemCreated with Sketch.

in #life8 years ago (edited)

Just reflecting back - a little over 6 months ago I overdosed and nearly died.

I'm just grateful to be alive today! Now, i'm clean, and traveling the world while building my businesses.

Currently hanging out in Thailand :D

I have an interview in about an hour for a podcast.

We'll be discussing my past as a heroin addict/my ex who got involved/my time in Vancouver while I was traveling last year.

Nervous, to say the least.

===

Also, I got this tattoo when I first arrived in Thailand a few months back.

I'm going to shade in each country as I visit/travel there.

It stands for the fact that "we have the world beneath our feet".

My buddy got a matching one, on the bottom of his feet, but it already pretty much completely rubbed off :[

GOOD FOR YOU, MAN! All of my friends are hooked on H, and have been for the last 10 years. I've just sat back and watch then fall 1 by 1. Not because i wanted to, of course...but because their addiction is so strong that there is no helping them until they actually want to be helped. I understand addiction. I've been through the pill phasr and see how it can graduate to the worst of things. So, AGAIN, i say good for you! Traveling is one of the best things to do after getting clean, IMO.

Following you now. Hope you'll return thr follow as i myself have some future posts regarding my own struggles i plan on putting out to the steemit community.

I truly appreciate you taking the time to read my story, it means a lot to me. I'm sorry to hear about your friends :[ Heroin is such a vicious drug, and most of it these days is basically just fucking fentanyl so it's 50x worse.....so fucking sad, this epidemic just keeps spreading with no end in sight....

Thanks for the love. I'll definitely follow you back right now as well! Cheers :D

Let us all know about every one of the new adventures you take in thr future. I myself have been fortunate enough to travel the world during my 17-23 year old phase in my life. The U.S. Navy paid for my passage, and i'll never forget it. It was the BEST part of my life, to this DAY! Maybe, if you happen to visit a country i've been to I'd be happy to give you my input. CHEERS!

Oh I absolutely will! That's why I'm on SteemIt - this is my new blog to share all my travel/personal/cool ideas with the world! :D

Haha, that's awesome! I'm actually a Navy Baby, I was born in Okinawa, Japan on base. Both my parents were in the Navy! They also said they loved traveling while they were serving - actually my dad STILL serves but he's reserves now, E11 I think? He's way the fuck up there now, crazy.

Thanks for checkin' this out!

very cool idea, like the tattoo. I Follow and Upvote ;)

Thank you very much! It's my first one ever. Now I want tons more :D I Followed you back too!

Hi, i love your blog, you seem to love pandas a lot haha, i followed you, see you !!

Haha thank you! Pandas are my thing <3 I'll follow you back too - thanks for the love!!

What a great tatto @fatpandadesign Totally feeling it!
And what I huge thing about you overdosing. Glad you found the strength to recover and embrace life.
Keep it up! :)

Thank you so much <3
I really appreciate the kind words right now. I needed a little uplifting today, and this helped.
Keep being awesome!!

Cool :-) I like the tattoo.

Thank you so much! <3 I can't wait to get my next one ;)

Appreciate the follow back! Looking forward to sharing content with you :D

You are so inspiring, love the tattoo idea. Good luck on your travels I will be following, especially as you love pandas - love and hugs xx

Aw, thank you so much! <3 I'll follow you back as well! Travel is just in my nature, I love perpetually slow traveling the world (currently playing around in Thailand hehe). Can't wait until I actually get to SEE a live panda, ughhhhh. Love and hugs right back !! xx

I'm glad you're alive....and great tats!

Thanks so much for your kind words!

Congratulations on the sobriety. I have many friends that lost family due to heroine, it's a vicious drug.

Thank you so much. Heroin is fucking vicious, especially these days since it's mostly all fentanyl or even carfentanil -- so horrible. I'm sorry to hear about your losses :[

Powerful story so far. Stuff like this is good to remind us that we can overcome any adversity in life.

I appreciate your kind words. That's why I write - to prove that it is possible. I made it out, and others can too. Thank you for following my story. :)

I'm from Vancouver and have seen the pain and suffering first hand in our city. So glad you made it out. That's an awesome idea for a tattoo... what a great way to inspire and track your travels! Upvoted, thanks for an inspiring post!

Oh wow....so you are all far too familiar with Hastings and the DTES...I can't believe how fast it sucked me in... :[

It's so weird too - the rest of the city is immaculate, it's like they just hide that part of the city, that little stain on it, and keep them over there with cheap housing and govt subsidies. It's fucked.

Thanks regarding the tat! It's my first one ever and I literally got it one night when we were walking in downtown Bangkok partying...decided it was time to get my first one!

I appreciate your upvote!

Oh yes, very much so. I've got a couple of friends who do some volunteer work there and it's pretty rough. So glad people are reaching out and trying to help.
This city is crazy the way it swings from the over the top excessive to those who really struggle. Something more needs to be done and that doesn't involve building more bike lanes. So ridiculous where the city's priorities are.
Anyways I'm way glad you're out of there and am excited about what the future has in store for Steemit. Popped up two posts on the FB group and a couple of people up'd them. I've been supporting as much as possible. Hope you've had a great day!!

it's so, so, so fucking sad....I absolutely agree with you :/

The priorities lie not in helping those in need, but simply in keeping property values inflated, keeping the money coming in and basically sectioning off the "blight" on Vancouver that is the DTES.

So sad... :[ I still can't believe how fast that part of the city sucked me in and nearly fucking killed me. I did a podcast interview last night which I can't wait to share once it's released, and we talked about the DTES/my addictions for a bit. I'd love if you checked it out once it is released.

I'm so glad i'm out of there too.

I wouldn't focus too much on the FB group these days - your best bet at growth is to hop in Discord if you aren't already, and join the other 350+ minnows in there! here's a link for getting set up in there if you need help:

Sweet, thanks. Will focus more there... please let me know when your podcast gets released. I definitely want to catch it.
So agree with you on this city and it's priorities. Look at all the money they've been spending putting suicide barriers on the bridges. I'm like how about spending money on support for the people and providing resources to prevent them from being in such a desperate position. So pathetic...
Hope you've had an amazing day and keep me posted!!

It's so fucked up. Vancouver needs to get it's shit together. My ex still lives there with her mom and I keep getting flashbacks to that place and how much bullshit I went through with my addiction there...I hate it :/

I will definitely let you know when the podcast episode is released! I actually kind of want to start my own podcast potentially - all about crypto, life, entrepreneurialism, travel, writing, etc - I think it would be pretty awesome. Thoughts/!

I think starting a podcast is a great idea! Would love to do it but I have time constraints with work so it's too much for me to take on. I love listening to podcasts. So much good quality content you can learn and improve yourself with, they are awesome!!

I absolutely agree - and I'd be featuring members of the community on each episode so there would be LOADS of valuable content for all SteemIt users :D
