I'm with you on both the immorality and consequences of transfer payment programs. That term is too sterile anyway, we're really talking about theft.
UBI makes sense on two grounds...
- It's a feature of a voluntary system along the lines that @dantheman has proposed.
- Its enactment truly is a replacement for every other "transfer payment" program, thereby making the system more efficient and lessening the overall burden to those from whom life is taken to subsidize.
