๐๐ฆ A glass of water or lemon water? ๐ฆ๐
How much water do we need to drink a day? ๐ฆ
Health authorities recommend that we drink 8 glasses or 2 litres of water a day. However, dietitians advise that it depends on the individual and that you drink when you feel thirsty. You may need to drink more when you exercise, when it is hot, or if you are breastfeeding for example.
In fact, all beverages hydrate you, even tea and coffee, in spite of its mildly diuretic effect. Fruit, vegetables and other water-rich foods also count.
What are the proven health benefits of being sufficiently hydrated?
- It improves energy levels and brain function;
- It may prevent and treat headaches and hangovers;
- It can help with weight loss when combined with a healthy diet;
- It can help with constipation;
- Some studies show that it reduces the risk of colorectal and bladder cancer;
- It decreases the risk of kidney stones;
- It may reduce acne.
Does drinking lemon water live up to the hype? ๐
It is claimed that drinking water mixed with lemon juice can improve your energy levels, immune system and metabolic health.
A glass of water mixed with half a freshly squeezed lemon provides 25% of your recommended daily intake and it is low in sugar and calories. It also contains antioxidants which can protect your cells from damage, improve blood circulation and reduce oxidative damage and stress.
However, the acid in lemons can damage your tooth enamel over time leading to cavities.
If you are eating a balanced diet, then drinking lemon water may not offer additional benefits, save that it is a healthy drink and some prefer the taste to plain water.
Try adding the lemon rind, honey and ginger or mint. Drink it hot or cold.

Great article. I wanted to write something aswell. Combining this with apple cidar vinegar in the morning is the best thing you can do. Nice. Got me as a follower :)
Thanks very much! ๐๐ฆ
I personally think straight water is the best for biological sustenance ; although I love a freshly squeezed lemon in my water on a hot day. It also can wake me up if I'm feeling tired mid-day. Too much water can literally kill you(or anything for that matter) and I like to just drink the amount that feels comfortable while realizing when I have dry mouth I'm probably already dehydrated. Great write up!
Thanks @liquefy ๐๐ฆ
I have to agree , water has its wonders, we should drink as much as we can 8 is minimum , more is always better
