My ULOG4; day 3 IN NIGERIA OPTOMETRIST STUDENT ASSOCIATION (NOSA) CONFERENCE

in #life7 years ago

This post was meant to come earlier but it was delayed by certain factors
Day 3 of the conference was an unexpected fun that took us all by surprise because we didnt anticipate a trip to the museum but the NOSA executives decided to surprise us by taking us to the very famous ABIA STATE WAR MUSEUM IN UMUAHIA.

A bus conveyed us from the hotel down to the museum and everybody was excited because war museums are kind of rare in my part of the world.

When we got to the museum I was amazed by what I saw because it was far greater than my expectations.

The museum mostly contained artifacts from the Nigeria civil war especially weapons that were locally constructed by the republic of biafra during the war which took place between January 15th 1966 and ended in 1970.

At the museum we learnt what brought about the war and how the warlord major Odumegwu Ojukwu led his troops to fight for the freedom of the republic of biafra due to the fact that most of the people from the igbo tribe were being assassinated in the north after the military coup that brought General Yakubu Gowon into seat of which he wasn't in support because the then General Yakubu Gowon was lower in rank than him and some other officials in the Nigerian army and wasnt suppose to be the military head of state but he lost the war and was sentenced to exile.

The museum contained lots of amazing artifacts including the original biafra flag
( for some reasons mobile phone werent allowed in the bunker were the flag was so the picture of the flag isnt available)

The original armored vehicles that were used to fight the war

Locally constructed Canon guns

Alot of great pictures ranging from before and after the war

Lots of locally constructed weapons that were used in fighting the war

The war museum was truly one to visit despite the fact that we weren't allowed to go into the museum with our mobile phones so as to maintain a high standard value for the artifacts.

After our tour around the museum we had a little picnic within the surrounding of the museum then we boarded our bus back to the hotel we were lodged
