Yesterday was my first time to join with the community by rendering services to accumulate 400 hours as part of the requirement of Habitat for Humanity Philippines Foundation Inc. It is a project where my bestfriends family applied to acquire a free housing from sweat equity. The program means you have to work during the building process a total of 400 hours. Most of the recipient families who where approved are under danger zone area or the residences are under demolition. My Bestfriends house is belong to danger zone area because its is prone to flood which is near from river ducks. Yesterday is the only day that we are available to contribute our part and we accumulated 14 hours from our work. We'd come to the site 9 in the morning and we ended at 5 in the afternoon.

As a person without experienced how to work as a construction worker, even not used to work under the heat of the sun. I could say that having that kind of work is not easy as I experienced it by myself yesterday. I love my befriends family and I am doing it as well for them to lessen the number of hours they need to get as the construction is ongoing.

We do the sand and gravel leveling, put steel matting, cut round steel, fixed metal screens, and twisted GI wires. While the sun is draining our strengths, secreting our sweats, dried our throats, getting multiple cuts and wounds, swelling fingers, skin burned, as resulted that I'm not feeling well today. But all these we experienced are replaced by happiness, enjoyment, feeling accomplished, we lessen the total hours, and feeling blessed. Because they can have now a permanent home for his family and these challenges are nothing if we do it with love.

It's so funny while doing those stuffs yesterday, because both of us are not prepaid to this extreme work. For us not to notice the time we took photos while working, every time we have cuts we show it instantly, and non-stop conversation.

The best thing is to have that feeling of being so proud to ourselves that we were able to work in that kind of field. While seeing our done work every moment of time, we kept on asking our selves " Oh, really we did these? Wow "

As what you can see I wear jacket because I need to protect my self from direct sunlight to avoid too much sun burn or unnecessary heat stroke. Next Tuesday we need to bring hand working gloves to avoid getting cuts or wounds while doing metal works. 1 hour is enough not to feel any pain from your fingers, but more than an hour will make you feel uncomfortable as we are doing multiple tasks.

We are doing the tasks what is only requested for us to do by the Forman. We don't do things that go beyond our incapacities only skilled worker or construction site worker are allowed to do difficult task. Yet, working in that situation that is not part of your field is really not easy.

I have so much respect to those people who are doing this kind of job for their family. They deserve more than a recognition, full benefits from the government and fair compensation.

We took our lunch at 11:30 AM following their break schedule and return at exact 1 PM . We bring our own rice, tumbler, utensils and enough money for that day, to buy our viand, snacks and for refueling our motorcycle. We go at nearest " Turo-Turo Karinderya " that we can take our lunch. We ordered vegetable " Ginataang Langka " , " Nilagang Baboy " , " Vegetable Lumpiang Shanghai" and very cold soft drinks .

While eating we talked about what we experienced on the field, Then it made us laugh " No Complaints or any negative feedbacks we should make it more fun and full of excitement" its for own benefit as well.

It's a wonderful feeling that you are working hard for your future home using your strength and sweat.
We are thanking as well the sponsors for this project which is mostly foreigners under ministries and for the local government who also supported them to make this program available for the less fortunate community.

Many Filipinos are living in a squatter areas, danger zones, and mostly are disasters victim from the previous years. Not only Habitat for Humanity Philippines Foundation Inc. are expressing their help to the community. There are also certain organizations that doing this same project.

Let's beat the heat by eating ice cream and pandan ice pop.
after we expose ourselves to burning field we decided to eat " Halo-Halo " or any fruit shakes. But it seems we are away from the city proper we expected that we can't find it their. What we saw is a sari-sari store that selling ice cream and other cold beverages. Instead we bought these cornetto and pandan ice pop.

After we took our lunch we returned at the working construction site and decided to take a rest under the trees and we cut banana leaves that will serve as our matting as we sat on the shaded grass field.

It's perfect place to rest, Where the fresh strong wind blows, that will make you feel relaxed, while listening music from our cellphones. Because we still have 30 minutes before we start our work again.

After 30 minutes we walked going to our designated areas that we need to work on. We do the same thing like sand and gravel leveling, put steel matting, cut round steel, fixed metal screens, and twisted GI wires.

The heat of the sun is very torrid and different from morning. Afternoon temperature is no longer tolerable as the heat is also coming out from the ground. That will make you feel sweater and tiring in just a couple of minute.

From 2:00 in the afternoon we had a non-stop work, we just drink water quite some time. We need to finished our task with the 3 consecutive duplex house flooring. I feel so uncomfortable that time because it is extremely hot as my body absorbs the heat of the surrounding. A feeling of tired, and excessive sweeting is not really good.
So we just talked and talked and talk.. and not to entertain any body complains.

30 minutes before we end our tasks the time keeper checked our attendance and input the number of hour that we rendered on that day. Each of us got 7 hours, because I am there as well they got 14 hours minus to the total hours of sweat equity.

My body doesn't feel the pain, but my fingers have multiple wounds and swelling, because of twisting the wires more than an hour and we don't have hand protecting gloves as well.

At exactly 5:00 PM we packed are things and go home to take a rest.

Yesterday is different from the previous years that we did every week , mostly we go on travel via road trip.
Now its a challenging day doing extra curricular activities, better say it as an accomplishments with a great benefit.
Next week March 27 Tuesday we are going back to continue our " Sweat Equity " project. For now we just take a rest and I am not feeling well since last night. " Body Shocked isn't ? "

Wow you guys really did a good job there jez! Ang ganda ng programang ito. Talagang dugo't pawis ang puhunan para mabuo yung bahay. Your friend is so lucky to have you.

Construction job isn't really easy. Kahit kami na nagmamando lang sa kanila, napupuyat na lalo na kapag mainit, how much more sa mga taong gumagawa talaga uminit man o umulan. I really salute these kind of people. This is a noble job that almost everybody underrates. These people really deserve more that what they are paid for.

really blessed.. kaya nga tinatanong nya ako kung kaya ko kasi I have vertigo before.. medyo nawala na nung ng pa acupuncture ako.. tsaka kung sa ganyang bagay d talaga ako gumagawa... eh para sa kaibigan eh... mainit man parang nahihilo ako.. nilalabanan ko nlng.. ksi may pupuntahan nman yung hirap.. so pag 400 hours dko alam kung ilang balik pa kmi dun.. pero sabi ko.. susuporta pa din ako.. heto ngaun nilagnat dahil siguro sa sobrang init tsaka parang nabigla katawan ko.. pero ok pa din.. masaya ksi kahit papano nakatulong ako.. salamat din.. d ko nman masasabi swerte talaga sila sa akin.. ako lng siguro yung medium na ginamit ni GOD to support them.. true friends are family...mapa init o ulan man.. maging construction man ako o ano pman.. d man siyang ask ng help ko.. tyo narin yung mag offer.. magkasilbi lng man tayo sa communidad diba.. hehehehe.. thanks ulit.. tsaka mg invest din kmi sa sunod kasi bahay lng yung libre.. babayaran yung lupa pero mura lng nman yung monthly 400 pesos ata.. tsaka after five years pa yung bayaran... next week ulit.. wla munang travel..

I have read it somewhere, headaches and vertigo are effects of fluids lacking in your body. Naka experience din ako ng ganyan before when I did zumba for a week. Na drain talaga yung fluid sa body ko, which caused that vertigo. Kaya ngayon, kahit hindi nauuhaw, iinom talaga ako ng tubig. Tubig lang ha, not juice or softdrinks. And it really helps. Sa awa ng Diyos, hindi na ako nakaka experience ng pagkahilo ngayon. I believe ganun din sa sitwasyon mo, lalo nat napakainit ngayon. You should always drink more and more and more water.

Bihira nalang ang mga taong kagaya mo, keep it up :D Uy magandayan ha, bihira nadin yang ganyang offer, napakamahal na ng lote ngayon.

You did a great job dude...True friends were those who stand by you when you need them the most.. and that was you!

keep helping others ..

Resteemed!
