Suicide: Humanity's shortage of Inner Peace Despite Record Highs of Outer Comfort

The news broke today that Anthony Bourdain passed yesterday at age 61. Very sad news ! I do not know him nor know of his work thoroughly. I had the chance to watch a documentary on his trip to Senegal and I remember thoroughly admiring the work done, as well as the personality he displayed.

May he rest in peace......but wait why ? why did he chose to end his life ? Why one chooses to end the only proof of one's existence to mankind ?

I am not trying to explain suicide, nor attempt to justify it. I am also not judging whether it is right or wrong as I am not entitled to make such judgement. Overall, suicide is indeed a very complex topic as one cannot and should not make any judgement on the current emotional/psychological state of a person. The ability to make such judgement would require one to be experiencing life as another individual, which is impossible currently.

But I still feel that there is a problem.....a problem with our current way of living. Here how I see it and it is quite simple.

If one wants to end anything, whether it is a relationship, a material good, etc....one must not be at ease or living in peace with it being part of their existence. As a consequence, if one wants to end their life, there must be intense unease and lack of peace somewhere for that person. The unease and lack of peace is essentially happening inside the individual, which the reason why it's surrounding usually fails to truly see or acknowledge it.

As I look at society, I truly believe that we have missed the fundamental requirement for human life: it is inner peace. This should be put at the same level as all our survival needs. One cannot do anything properly if not peaceful in his/her existence.

Such peace is irrelevant to your place in society. It is indeed the realization that you are the maker of your own inner experience of life.

The outside has no influence on what your inner experience is unless you accept that it does, which is unfortunately how we are raised to think.
