MY EXPERIENCE OF HURRICANE IRMA

<Html> ![Hurricane-Irma-3.png]() It’s been four (4) months after the extremely powerful hurricane Irma with winds of 215 km/h hit my beautiful home in the British Virgin Island. It is a day that i won’t forget; I can still remember it like it was yesterday. September 6, 2017 is a date that I can’t forget. ![irma.jpg]() It started like any other rainy day. That my fiancé, his daughter and I had to stay home because the weather wasn't good to go out to do our daily routines. At 8 o clock in the morning the rain and wind was moderate, so we decided to stay in the living room and pass the time. The electrical company took the current. So we put on our portable radio to listen to what was going on. The person on radio said that the hurricane was to make land fall at 10 o'clock that morning. Around 9:45 the wind started to increase and water was coming in the house from under the front door. My fiancé daughter who is six years old was in her room playing came out fives later saying that water was coming from her windows. So I went to check it out and I couldn't believe what i was seeing. Now we live in a three bedroom apartment and were are on the third floor. I went back to the living room to inform my fiance about what was going on. To my surprise i saw my fiance mopping up water. So I went to mop up the water from his daughter room. But we didn't know that it was going to be a battle against water coming. Then the wind picked up it was sounding like a raging herd of buffaloes. First thing that happen the front door glass broke, then the wind was inside the house. The building started shaking, all the door in the house started swing open and close. The side door in the kitchen was taken of it hedges. After that I went to my fiance daughter who was screaming because she was afraid. So we left her room and went to the master bedroom where I locked the door, pushed the dressing table behind of it. After that t he wind went on crazy inside the house. The wind was so strong that it opened up the door of the room, so we had to go into the closet so that none of the debris won’t hit us. I called out to my fiance for five minutes but I didn't get a response I worried but I had to stay calm cause of his daughter. Inside of the closet all was hearing was the wind moving things all over the place .it calm down for two minutes to my surprise my boyfriend made it to us, I was so relieved. Shortly after that the wind came back stronger than before. The force of the wind caused us to have pressure in our ears. All i could do as we were in the closet was prayer for it to end. When it came to an end I was so elated. We left the closet and decided to go outside. The house was a mess glass, water and leaves were everywhere. i lost windows , doors, furniture etc..But I thanked God that we were alive. Every room in the house was a mess like there was a tornado in the house. Thank God that we had a concrete roof because we who have gotten more damages or worst. Honestly we thought it was over but it wasn't it was just the eyes; during the eye it was bright calm the sun was out there wasn't one cloud in the sky. Oh my God but outside all you could was damages to houses, cars , electrical lines and poles, trees etc.. i went downstairs to check on my neighbors the second floor was completely damages the appliances, doors, windows were gone the apartment was clean his sofa was trying to pass though his window . All i could do was shake my head. They decided that they going by his mother house .We quickly went down to the first floor where neighbor there did really no damages but water. ![irma 2.jpg]() The eye only lasted 15 minutes we had to stay on the first floor when the storm started back. the sky started to turn blackish grey the wind pick up and the rain started to pour. All we could do was wait for it to be over for us to go around the neighbor hood to see what happened to the other neighbors. </html>
