MOT • Personal Growth #2: True happiness in life
Hi Steemians, great that you are here!
Today I would like to start with a new series on How to Live Life, which in essence is a Life Management Seminar based on the sermon on the mount. Today we will look into the first three steps towards a fulfilled and purposeful life by depending on God and his joy.
So let's directly dig into it.
Part 1:
If you want to start managing your life, you have to start with the management of your attitudes.
So what does this mean? This comparison might help: understand your attitudes as the "gas" of your life. Without it you can't go anywhere, even if you have the greatest motor in the world, and the wrong attitude will only take you a certain distance just before your motor breaks down. So it's important to have the right attitude to fuel yourself and to make it to the finish line.
Next, you have to understand your attitudes as blessings from God! They are a gift, given to you. Only with the right attitude you can have a healthy heart with a positive direction in your life.
And that's already the whole secret: the pure fact of recognizing and living with this blessedness will make you truly happy in life. I'm not talking about a temporarily status of happiness or a happiness in the worlds way, but being truly happy in life.
Your attitude defines and fuels your life, it is a blessing from God and by understanding this you will experience true happiness.
Part 2:
Blessed are those who are poor in spirit.
There are situations in your life where you feel inadequate, that you just don't measure up, right? How do you normally react on these situations? Do you become nervous? Angry? Do you experience fear or do you even resigned? Many of us try to compensate this feeling with overwork. So what do all of these reactions have in common? Correct, they are attempts of escaping. But what would be the right respond? It is by knowing and admitting that you're poor in spirit. When you feel you are inadequate, just admit that you are. Admit, that you don't have what it takes. It is as easy as that.
But why would this be OK? Well, simply because of two reasons: 1) You simply have not been made for being great and perfect in everything. 2) You never can be what God wants you to be without him and his strength, and this you will only get by admitting that you need him, by inviting him into your life to work on and with you. Open up your life to his riches. Build a relationship with God. He created you for a reason, your very own purpose. So just admit that you can't fulfill it just by relying on yourself. Admit, that you are depending on God.
The first step towards living a happy life starts with being humble, and that means to admit, that you are poor in spirit. That means, to turn towards God. Humility and happiness, they go together. So be humble.
And what will this lead to? Well, it will reduce stress, improve your relationships (e.g. working with others instead of against or above), it will release the real power in your life, simply by depending on God.
Part 3:
Blesses are those who mourn = be sad.
There is this saying "Happy people have learned to cry", which is absolutely true. Being sad means to be honest in the face of tragedy. Don't try to escape it, but go into it. Mourn the hurt, don't try to manage it, don't try to hide from it - there is absolutely no weakness in it. Don't try to comfort yourself and make yourself feel comforted, because "a comfortable life will not comfort your soul". Don't try to "feel good as fast as possible", but be honest about the hurts in this world and in your life. Be honest with God about it. Otherwise you can't open up to the joy God provides you with. Being sad is a gift from God to process your pain. Allow God to heal your pain, he has joy to give to you.
Finally, let me say this: yes, you have a lot of strengths. But you also have to realize your weaknesses. Don't lie about them, but open up to Gods power. Look to God for comfort and hope. Bring your hurts to him and in that find his comfort. Come to him in all your weakness to receive his power.
Thanks so much!
