Great Mumbai - A City That Never Sleeps

in #life7 years ago

Come to Mumbai and experience the glitz and glamor of the home of Bollywood. This historic city still holds some colonial mansions in Matheran Hill Station along the dusty red hills. But there are still more to it.

Formerly known as Bombay, Mumbai was named after Mumbadevi - the patron goddess of its local villagers. The city is not only recognized as a big and large city but also a famous modern city in India. Just so you know, it both serves as the commercial and entertainment capital of India. However, before setting out to tour Maximum City, there is the need for adequate information and preparation.
Here are a few things to consider before visiting the city that never sleeps – Mumbai.

What to see

The Maharashtra capital is the home of Bollywood – the world’s largest film industry. So prepare to watch live movie scene on the streets of Mumbai. Also, several historic buildings which were constructed during the colonial era by the British are still extant today in Mumbai. Most of which be found around the Colaba area where the famous Gateway to India is located.
The city is also famous for its shopping. There are several open-air stalls spread out over the entire space of the popular Fashion Street. This is where several popular brands are sold by local traders at cut-rate prices. Both visitors and residents come to patronize them by purchasing their export rejects and knockoffs.
Touring the world’s biggest slum can come as a culture-shock to first-time visitors. As a matter of fact, Mumbai is notorious for terrorist attacks at tourist hotels.

What to eat

The Colaba Causeway is where tourists come to get refreshed once they are true with the hot business of shopping. There are lots of cafes, bars, and restaurants that serve up refreshing beer, chips, and fish on this paved road. Most visitors who just need to take a break visit popular food spots like Leopold's Café and Café Mondegar. Though the food here is cheap and plentiful, service is generally known to be slow.

Mumbai is special
Queen’s Necklace.jpg
Unlike other popular destinations in India, Mumbai has some of the prettiest locations anyone would want to visit. One of which is a 2-mile stretch along the sea commonly known as Marine Drive. Nicknamed the “The Queen’s Necklace,” the stretch provides both locals and tourists with a soothing environment for leisure both day and night.
Thanks to the double row of traffic lights, riding along the Queen’s Necklace on a horse-drawn carriage can be great fun. There is no big deal about this as it is relatively easy and cheap. Tired of taking a cab around the city, try an autorickshaw. But always ensure to see the card before making any payment.

So, let me know what you feel about this great city.
