My 6 tips for serving yourself while working a job you don’t like

If you’re working in some dog shit job that you hate don’t worry, you’ll make it through. Here are my 6 tips I came up with to serve you while getting paid.

  1. Don’t be afraid to volunteer

People tell you not to volunteer for anything when you’re working a low level job, that’s just dumb. Opportunities are all over the place. Sometimes you just got to create them.

  1. Take a little initiative

I guess this goes hand-in-hand with volunteering. It’s crazy what joining a comity or working a little OT can buy you these days. Make suggestions to improve things. Who knows it may get you a raise.

  1. Make your job bigger

Rather than waiting around for a new assignment, start looking around for ways to make your job more interesting. Plenty of people complain that they are bored with their job, but they don’t do anything about it. They don’t look for ways to make their job more challenging. Start to think: “What is one big problem that I can fix?”

  1. Mine the “gold” out of the garbage

I’ve made a couple dollars taking stuff that employers were throwing in the dumpster. EBay and Craigslist is a beautiful thing.

  1. Find ways to be an entrepreneur

Instead of thinking like a lowly worker, start thinking and acting like an entrepreneur. Taking risks, making deals and creating value in unexpected places.

  1. Help improve morale

Just don’t be a dick.
