List of Foods We Will Lose if We Don’t Save the Bees ( and Yes, Mangos are on this list !! )

in #life7 years ago (edited)

Inspired by @DoItVoluntarily to post on the dwindling Bee Population. Some STEEMians here really Love Mangos, which are on the list of plants that are pollinated by the endangered global Bee Population.

https://steemit.com/science/@doitvoluntarily/common-pesticides-pose-a-great-threat-to-bee-populations-says-new-study

Knew very little of the importance of Bees Pollinating many of the foods we eat. Then someone who was a Beekeeper, who also had a PhD, stayed on my sailboat for almost a year... WoW, did I ever learn a lot... It's Good to be around really smart people !!

Please find near the bottom an abbreviated list of just some of the fruits, vegetables, spices, cotton AND Yes, even Coffee may become much less available if our global Bee Population continues to grow smaller.

List of Foods We Will Lose if We Don’t Save the Bees

Many pesticides have been found to cause grave danger to our bees, and with the recent colony collapses in Oregon, it’s time to take a hard look at what we would be missing without bee pollination.

In just the last ten years, over 40% of the bee colonies in the US have suffered Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD). Bees either become so disoriented they can’t find their way back to their hives and die away from home, or fly back poison-drunk and die at the foot of their queen. There are many arguments as to what is causing CCD, but the most logical and likely culprit is the increased usage of pesticides by the likes of Monsanto and others.

A study by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has labeled one pesticide, called clothianidin, as completely unacceptable for use, and banned it from use entirely. Meanwhile, the U.S. uses the same pesticide on more than a third of its crops – nearly 143 million acres. Two more pesticides linked to bee death are imidacloprid, and thiamethoxam. These are also used extensively in the US, while elsewhere, they have been taken out of circulation.

Recently, the FDA also seized Terrence Ingram’s bees, a naturalist who had been studying bees for over 30 years, and had a colony that was resistant to Monsanto’s Round Up. Ingram’s prized hives, along with their queens, were destroyed by the FDA, and Ingram was given no warning that his bees would be demolished.

This is such an important topic, thanks for creating awareness about this!

Thanks a lot for reminding us how fragile is the ecosystem around us. We should stop pretending that we know better than the nature.

Take care and have a great weekend.

@Ervin-Lemark... Well said and Thank You 4 coming by Ervin...

Basically all that's good in the world will perish if the bees go extinct!

@Taraamin77... Let's hope that people wake up before that happens.

Have a Good Week !!

Nooooooooo! Not mangoes!

Smilessss @TeamSteem... >> : ~ ))

Actually included that mention of Mangos specifically 4 You... Thanks 4 responding AND...

Have a Great Weekend !!

Haha! That's what I thought!

No more CHEm-trails..... No more chEm-TrAiLs! Educate yourselves...............

@StillWater... Good point, there are so many ways that life on earth is adversely affected.

Thanks 4 coming by... Have a Great Weekend !!

I'm here at the beach with a clear view of the sky in all directions and they're everywhere! Just look up people. Do a little research. There's a visible difference in a con trail and a chem trail. There's a visible difference between a cloud and a dissipating chem trail. There are also flight paths that planes take. There shouldn't be criss cross patterns in the skys or large x's or grid patterns of people think are con trails....................... knowledge is power.

I love so many of those veggies. Sigh. That's why I need my own bees! I have a hive, just didn't have the availability to get any or a bee suit this year! NEXT YEAR. I hope. I was sad that the company I was planning to buy supplies from went under. :(

@Farmstead... Have a friend, Dan, who is a beekeeper & has a PhD. Dan lived on my sailboat for awhile and is a really Good Person. He gave his sister most of his bees and she now has about 100 hives & sells honey commercially in Florida.

Let me see If I can get her contact info to You...I've never communicated with her but if she is like her brother, Dan, she'll help You... will be back within the hour. What state in the USA do You live ?

Quick Edit: Just sent a text to Dan... but just realized that maybe You want to wait until next year to start... I just want to be sure You want to start soon or perhaps wait until next year. Just let me know either way. Thank You @FarmStead...

Cheers !!

Hi! Wow what a great offer!! I am always up for more Beekeeping friends! I was working for a beekeeper earlier this year, bottling honey and selling it in his honey shop. Unfortunately they had to shut down the shop and let me go.

I am in the local Beekeeping club here in Central Oregon. I haven't attended any meetings this year (financial difficulties and all) but they're a great resource! But I am always down for more beekeeping friends. :D

Do you live far off the land with your boat? Cause how funny-cool would it be to have a beehive chillin' on your deck?! Ha.

I do want to wait until next year cause we've come down on some financial difficulties and I wont be able to get myself a suit (unless Steemit pulls through! Woo! Haha). I will have to save up for it.

Thanks for thinking of me!

@FarmStead... You're most welcomed...haven't heard back yet from my BeeKeeper friend, Dan.

Dan is about 75 so I may try emailing or calling. He lives in New Mexico and his sister in Florida, but I don't have his sister's cell number.

Anyway, I will do my Best...

Just a quick thought, my intuition is suggesting that Your money situation is in the process of becoming more abundant. It is easy to "see" that You will do very well here at STEEMiT because You are such a giving person AND You write Very Good Posts (content value) !!

Cheers !!

I very much appreciate the encouragement and positive vibes! I hope that's true! I also hope I can keep up with it. I'm already kind of failing on motivation to keep writing every day but hopefully it will start coming easier again!

Thank you so much for your kind words! :)

Good News !! Dan, the Beekeeper texted me back an hour ago so it might be best to meet You over at SteemitBloggerCentral because would prefer to give You his email in private... will head over to SBC in just a bit.

I think You'll really like Dan as he can be very helpful.

Have a Good Day FarmStead !!
