Scared of the world? Show them who is the boss with Self-Defense Techniques!
The world we live in today is pretty unpredictable. One doesn’t know what to expect out of life the next minute. This is how nature has designed the universe and that how life goes on… and comes to an end.
It becomes especially hard to accept the reality when a young life ends as a result of some mishap. Accidents happen, and very often, the victim is not responsible. However, the life given to us is a special gift from God and no matter how unpredictable it gets, there are some aspects that can be taken care of by ourselves. To love and live our life, we need to value it and take things on hand that we can.
As I'm getting older, every year I feel that I have a responsibility not only towards society and family but also towards myself. I have to take care of myself and make myself stronger to be able to truly understand and value my life. The first thing that one needs to take care of at every stage of life is the health of course. That should be the priority because once it was gone, you might not be able to recover it.
The second most important thing to learn in life is to believe in yourself defend yourself. Self-defense doesn’t only mean you learn a few tricks and apply them at the time of the attack. Self-defense also refers to protecting yourself from toxic thoughts and emotions that you know are harmful to you. If you have an opinion, voice it out. Don’t keep it in. If you feel like there is something that needs to be spoken about, speak up. Make a statement and make yourself heard. Defend yourself wherever it's needed.
While emotional self-defence is a whole different topic and needs to be talked about, today we are going to talk about physical self-defence. If you are interested in some techniques, you must have already seen many all over the internet. But what I think is the most important in this area is keeping your mind alert at all times. Applying techniques may be actually easier than analyzing and being aware of the surroundings and reacting at the right moment.
Let's discuss some examples:
- Loudest that you’ve ever been!
Professional trainers suggest that whenever you sense something wrong around you, be loud about it. Of course, you can take a second to analyze what’s happening but that all the time you need. Get loud about it so people can hear you and the attacker gets scared of the whole situation. Don’t wait to be attacked just to prove to the world that that something is really wrong. Follow your gut feeling and don’t be scared to voice it out! Even if it doesn’t turn out to be an attacker or snatcher, you can always apologize. Likewise, if you ever get to face a similar situation where you are mistaken for a snatcher or some wrongdoer then explain your positions and situation in a calm tone and expect to apologize for it.
- Go for the Eyes!
Self-defence doesn’t necessarily involve hitting hard. It's about hitting right! First, you need to gain control over the situation by attacking the parts of the attacker that could make them uncomfortable and lost control over you. Poke their eyes! We all know that feeling. Or we can say that we can all at least imagine what the feeling must be like. Poke both the eyes as soon as you get a chance.
- Use your joints:
That’s right, Trainers suggest the use of your knees and elbows the most. In my point of view, It doesn’t need much effort but the use of right angles and hitting at the right places of the attacker. Some people actually call them you're in built weapons. Apart from the knees and elbows, the head can also be used to hit and make an impact.
These are just some pointers that you need to keep in your mind in order to begin learning some hardcore techniques. Once you accept that you don’t feel safe enough on the streets or even in your own home, you would want to go for learning self-defence techniques.
Once you do, trust me, your confidence level will rise up to ten times and your stamina would also allow you to run and walk at a fast pace. Moreover, let's be honest, people will automatically be intimidated by you once they're aware of your skills. It feels cool. Try it out and help your loved ones learn them too. Good luck!
I totally agree with the advice in this post. Everyone needs to know how to defend themselves. My father is ex-military and taught me the basics, the most important being 'lights out!' Thats his way of saying go for the eyes!
Thank you for your opinion
Practicing martial arts, I have found to be one of the best choices I have made in my life. I have over 20 years of training and what you said about extending what you learned to all aspects of your life makes perfect sense to me. Especially defending yourself against negative thoughts and behaviors. Great post.
Thank very much for your feedback

First of all glad i found you, great post. From my experience into the world of martial arts it really depend on the case what you can do. Mostly everything you learn on self-defense or martial arts ( except if you are practicing a long long time) on a real case scenario you are gonna do shit and that's the reality.
You will be panicked and you have no clue know how you gonna react or how much you can get harmed. your only options are run and scream ( as you mentioned too). if you can calm yourself the it's a complete different scenario! anyway i got carried away great post and i will keep an eye on you
Thank you, that's an honor
