What should be the Roles of Partners in a Relationship?

The bond between two spouses is said to be the strongest bond in the world. The strength of this bond depends on how much understanding there is between the two. The more the spouses agree to cooperate the more peaceful and relaxing is the relationship among them. In order to create this peaceful environment some basic rules have to be laid down. In order for them to carry on their relationship until death does them part, they had to make sacrifices.

As it is wisely said:

“If one of the partner in a partnership is losing his shirt while the other is counting his money, it is no longer a partnership it is a sinking ship”.

Mutual Understanding:

Since “Relationships are built on mutual understanding” , it would be wise for both partners to carefully listen to what the other has to say. Not letting the people outside disrupt the peace they have among them. To discuss with one another the things they like and the things they do not like. Only when they share their feelings with one another would they start communicating and that is the most fundamental requirement of a relationship.

Roles in the Past:

Male Role:

In the past it was the role of the male to be the head of the house, he would be the only bread winner and nothing could have been done without his permission. He would go out to work all day, come home and deal with house affairs. He was not responsible for the children, their education, or any cleaning done in the house nor did he cook. It was actually considered as a preposterous act. Society would laugh at him if they found him washing or hanging the laundry.

Female Role:

Meanwhile, it was the women who dealt with the children, the cleaning of the house, they were the ones who made the food and did the laundry. If even the idea of going out to work in order to earn money struck their head, they would be insulted. For in those times society was illiterate and women were not allowed to have any sort of radical ideas. Their status was on same level as the slaves.

Distribution of Roles:

But if the roles are distributed among both spouses then they could be relieved from their burden. If both take care of the kids, hang the laundry, take turns cooking the meal while the other washes the dishes, and having rules like the last one to wake up has to make the bed. With how fast the world is progressing if both do not divide the work amongst themselves then it would become even harder for them to survive.

In the end the roles of individuals in a relationship only depends upon how much understanding there is between them. By learning more about each other and instead of holding grudges and getting into fights due to misunderstandings it is better for both sides to come clean and play their parts in perfect harmony. If both sides are happy then it does not even matter if the world is in chaos, they could fight depression and sadness together, hand in hand facing the world together. So the roles of partners in their relationship should be divided among them according to their level of understanding and mutual trust.
