How To Stop The Constant Chatter of The Mind - A Yogi’s Views
Thanks to the ever rising stress in the modern world, life has become completely opposite of what it was supposed to be. Picture an average person with an average job and his life today.
It has increasingly become more hectic, stressful, monotonous and tiresome, among other things. That is despite all the technological improvements we have had over the last decades, which ironically were supposed to make our lives “easier”. Guess that was a huge fail!
Anyways, it is a no brainer that our minds are constantly thinking of one thing or the other, especially with the added distractions we are bombarded with nowadays. So, it’s natural to look for ways to stop that constant chatter of the mind.
I was looking for the same a while back and came across a video from Sadhguru, whom I have actually been following for quite a while now, regarding the topic at hand.
Wisdom From A Yogi
Usually when we talk about some teachings of Yogis, people tend to think that they are simply not applicable in the modern times as they automatically associate them with ancient times. But that cannot be further from the truth. We just need to be sensible enough to apply them and maybe we can do the same here.
Going into the video, I was surprised that Sadhguru gave an advice that one wouldn’t expect. He said that we humans have developed our brains after millions of years of evolution and it was not right to want to shut it off.
He also said that we wouldn’t wish the same for our hearts, kidneys, lungs or any other parts. “So, why the prejudice against the mind?” he asks. I think he is quite right.
The problem always arises when the brain in producing unpleasantness rather than pleasantness for you. As he asks, “If the brain was producing absolute pleasantness for you, would you think how to stop this mind?” That, for me was a phenomenal eye opener.
It’s About Controlling Your Mind
Instead of trying to stop the constant chatter of our minds, we should learn to control it. It’s no doubt that it is a powerful tool, evident from our very journey as a species.
As Sadhguru says, “The issue is, the most important faculty in your life is out of control, doing its own rubbish all the time, not doing what you want it to do.”
If we can learn to control our minds then we can do miracles with the power of our minds. There are so many ways of doing that, but the number one on my list has always been meditation. And not the clichéd meditation that has been ‘marketed’ to us.
I am talking about the meditation of an inner nature where you go deeper and deeper to your core and explore all parts of your being. That truly changes you as a person and you have control over your mind like never before. But you sure need focus, clarity and a whole lot of patience to achieve that for sure!!
Though controlling our minds is not an easy phenomenon, those who are able to do it, achieve all what they want!! :)
We will succeed if we can control our mind. And it completely depends on us to stop diverting our mind.

The purpose of meditation is to make our mind calm and peaceful. If our mind is peaceful, we will be free from worries and mental discomfort, and so we will experience true happiness. But if our mind is not peaceful, we will find it very difficult to be happy, even if we are living in the very best conditions. but doing meditation and getting a quick result is no a possible thing ever. its a slow and mastering process. you have to do your best for it. its not an easy method as this article says ! please help us to teach how to do meditation, how to overcome obstacles while starting it and how to overcome our bad thoughts that comes as soon as we start meditation.
I agree with everything you have said here. Meditation is really a crucial factor in our lives that most people don't even consider. Even if they do, they think it is a quick fix thing which is not true. Like other things, it takes time and we have to be patient with it.

The wisdom of the yogis is applicable to any era of history, they are universal rules and simple and profound practices at the same time. meditate, relax, find oneself are things that at any time of humanity served to have clear ideas and feel good.

By controlling our minds, we will learn how to control or handle the various challenges life throws at us each day without allowing them to overwhelm us. The mind is the door of the soul. Once the mind gets unsettled, every thing about us will be unsettled until we put the mind in order. So controlling our minds is always to our advantage
I like what you said about the mind being the door of the soul. It is really important to be centred. Or else it can screw up our whole lives.
