Do you know the Japanese "Rising sun" flag, which has the same meaning as "Hakenkreuz"?

in #life6 years ago (edited)

Hello?? I'm @seunglimdaddy.

As a Korean I have to talk to you today, although I write in my immature English skills.

"Hakenkreuz" and "Rising sun" all refer to the flag of the countries that caused the Second World War (Pacific War) and the symbol of the related organization

It was a very painful war, but as soon as the war ended, Germany and Japan were different.

In Germany, "Hakenkreuz", which means the Nazis, is strictly forbidden by flags and uniforms.

And Germany has expressed serious regrets and admitted their past mistakes.

However, Japan still uses "Rising sun".

The following article is a press report that shows recent problems related to this.

Although you may be busy, please read this situation with your interest.

And please judge whether the Japanese action is correct.

S. Korea renews call for Japan to remove ‘rising sun’ flag (The Washington Post)

South Korea on Thursday reiterated a demand that Japan should remove its “rising sun” naval flag from a warship participating in an international fleet review at Jeju island next week.

Many South Koreans associate the symbol with Japanese military aggression during World War II and have expressed anger over the potential display of the alleged “war-crime flag” during the Oct. 10-14 event.

South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha on Thursday said Japan should be more considerate about how South Koreans remember its brutal colonial rule of the Korean Peninsula before the end of the war.

South Korea’s navy has asked all 14 countries participating in the fleet review to display only their national flags and the South Korean flag on their vessels, a request apparently aimed at preventing the invited Japanese destroyer from flying the “kyokujitsuki.” The Foreign Ministry also conveyed Seoul’s position to Tokyo through diplomatic channels.

But Japan has balked at the demand, with Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera saying last week that the ship’s display of the red-and-white flag would be mandatory under Japan’s laws. The flag, portraying a red disc with 16 rays extending outward, has been used as the ensign of Japan’s Maritime Self-Defense Force since its launching in 1954.

When asked whether South Korea could raise the issue of Japan’s usage of the flag with the United Nations, Kang said her ministry will review the “possible and appropriate options” before deciding whether to take stronger international action.

“We have conveyed our stance that Japan should sufficiently consider our people’s sentiment toward the rising-sun flag and our historical experience,” Kang said.

It’s debatable whether any South Korean attempt to ban Japan from using the flag would be successful. Some experts say it would be difficult to equate the kyokujitsuki with Nazi symbols such as the swastika, as many South Koreans do, because the Japanese usage of the rising-sun symbol long predates World War II.

South Korean Defense Minister Jeong Kyeong-doo acknowledged to lawmakers on Monday that there’s not much the country can do under “international custom” if Japan insists on displaying the rising-sun flag on the vessel coming to Jeju.

South Korea’s navy on Thursday denied a local report that it was considering having President Moon Jae-in board a South Korean warship named after the disputed eastern islets of Dokdo during the fleet review in hopes of nudging Japan to voluntarily withdraw from the event. The rocks are occupied by South Korea but are also claimed by Japan, which calls them Takeshima.

Japanese naval vessels flew rising-sun flags during fleet reviews in South Korea in 1998 and 2008. But next week’s fleet review comes amid heightened anti-Japanese sentiment, partially fueled by bitterness over a 2015 agreement between the countries to settle a long-standing row over Korean women forced into wartime sexual slavery.

Some South Koreans also see Japan’s conservative government as failing to sufficiently support South Korea’s diplomatic push to improve relations with North Korea following a period of animosity over the North’s nuclear and missile tests.

Hundreds of protesters on Wednesday expressed anger over Japanese plans to bring the rising-sun flag to the fleet review during a weekly rally in Seoul denouncing sexual slavery by Japan’s World War II military.

A ruling party lawmaker has even proposed a bill banning the symbol on ships and aircraft entering South Korea and also at concerts and sports events. Internet users have filed more than 150 online petitions to the office of President Moon, asking him to stop the Japanese destroyer from coming to the island.

“Tell this to (Japanese Prime Minister) Abe: They will not be able to come with the rising-sun flag,” shouted Kim Bok-dong, a 92-year-old sexual slavery victim, during Wednesday’s rally. “Tell him to be careful. Do you think we will just sit aside and let them do it?”

In addition, many Internet sites sell the following products, and I think we should stop this.

My thoughts may be wrong, but the above items are to be seen as advocating war.

If you agree with my opinion, I ask for resteem so that many people can see.

In fact, I do not use voting-bot usually. However, please understand that it is inevitable to announce it widely.

Sort:

The swastika is used in many religions, no need to condem it, im sorry but you say are korean? This symbol is also used in your religion and is on many tempels.
It has nothing to do with hitler or any kind of evil.

Nice try (and of course there is a loophole in your opinion regarding “swastika” but let’s just skip it since it is not the main argue in this posting) but no matter what the origin it might have been, it is crystal clear that the Nazis have used “Hakenkreuz” as their representing symbol.
And the “rising sun” flag was the symbol of Japanese militarism who partnered with the Nazis(also a historical fact) during the WW II.

Hahaha lol why flagging? Let everyone have his own flags and symbols, just respect everyone's culture.
And this had nothing to do with loopholes, that symbol has been around for thousands of years as a symbol for good(Historical fact), then a few idiots use it and it is bad? Life is not that like that.
Where do you even come from? Don't you know a whole part of the world respects those symbols? From china to india, once up a time that symbol was represented around the world, in many cultures en religions.

Haha, omg you still don’t get it.
It is not about “swastika” so please kindly refrain from giving lectures about it. It is rather who did use its derived form, which is done in very specific way: “hakenkreuz” by the Nazis.

Again, it is not about the symbol itself and even the writer of this posting is heading to “Hakenkreuz” in any sense. He is focusing on “who” have used it at “specific time of the era”; the only difference between “Halenkreuz” and the “Rising Sun” flags is very simple: the former is not used anymore and even most of the people who do know about world’s most sad & tragic part of the history do fear about that symbol rising again (hope you heard about neo-Nazis.) On the other hand, the latter is still used with the Japanese government.

Thanks for the lesson mainly on the history of “swastika” but again, you are looking at it very myoptic. This little difference is what people has to see and get the sense of what is wrng from this posting not the history of a certain symbol. Thanks.

You still dont get it, I know there are many forms of swastika, the same Hitler used is used by other religions, de exact same one, minus the red back ground, there are many different versions. I dont know why you are being so offensive, just have respect for people's culture and religion, wether that is moslim, christian or any other. Banning flags and symbols leads only to more hate.

The Nazi's symbol is stolen among other "things" from Ancient Hellenic Civilization. Have also in knowledge that Germany 's regrets are bullshit as they never paid war reparations to Hellas as also the occupation loan they forced Hellas to give them. This amount is more than 350 billion euros today.
And you are making all this for a flag?
May humanity starts thinking for unity at last !
