Unhealthy Things In Your House

in #life6 years ago (edited)

Home is where the health is. We remain careful with diseases, infections and health hazards when we go outside our home, fearing that outside food and places may harm our health. But what if we are breeding and honing unhealthy things at our house ourselves that are continuously damaging our health in different ways?

We have prepared this piece especially to make you aware of the things you should get rid of from your house in order to keep yourself and your family healthy. Here are the things in your house that may be secretly harming your health.

  • Plastic

Plastic is the biggest dilemma that today’s world is facing, not only in terms of environmental degradation but surprisingly it also plays a part in damaging your health. Plastic is almost everywhere in our house. The screen you’re reading this on is probably encased in plastic too. We are constantly being exposed to plastic, especially when it comes to eating. Using plastic containers for food can make your food toxic due to many reasons. Directly putting hot food or drink in a plastic container will emit toxic substances from this petroleum byproduct. Remove the maximum number of plastic products, especially from your kitchen, such as the cutting boards we use made of plastic because the scratching knife can add the plastic pieces in your food while you’re cutting them.

  • Wrong Soap

We are also regularly exposed to different chemicals at our home, whether it’s your cosmetic products or just soap. Choosing the right kind of soap is important, as some of them can contain chemicals with can disturb your hormones levels, such as the antibacterial soap. Using the regular soap gives almost the same results but it’s much safer in terms of chemical exposure. For your satisfaction, you may want to use alcohol-based sanitizers in addition to normal soap.

  • Margarine

It’s a pity if you’ve fallen for another advertisement of margarine, claiming that it’s healthy for you and necessary for your child’s development. The researchers have discovered that margarine is not good for your health, in fact, it’s damaging in terms of LDL. So, if you’re still using margarine in any of your foods, just eliminate it completely and make a shift to an appropriate use of butter, which is a much healthier and tastier substitute.

  • Cosmetics

Some of your cosmetics can be harmful to you as the chemicals can be absorbed by your skin into your body. This could be built up by using it regularly. Try to check what your products contain and what are their side effects and possible health hazards. Also, avoid using any older cosmetic products and always check the expiry dates before using them. Liquid cosmetics should especially be used carefully, as it can become a home for bacterial colonies to grow in it. It’s recommended that you shouldn’t use your liquid make up three months after unsealing them. You must also make sure that you don’t use an expired sunscreen, as the active contents in the cream become ineffective, and wearing them thinking that they will protect you from harmful sun radiation will be a big mistake.

  • Toothbrush

Your mouth contains more bacteria than the total number of human beings in the entire world, surprising much? Your toothbrush goes all the way in there. Although you certainly use your toothpaste which has an antibacterial and cleaning action, it’s still important to keep your brush clean. Despite the antibacterial action of toothpaste, the bacteria can multiply and grow in the jungle of the brush bristles in a long run. Therefore, let’s assume that your toothbrush also has an expiry date, as it is recommended to change it after using for a certain amount of time.

  • Wrong fresheners

Home feels like heaven when the perfumed air fresheners fill the air with a sweet soothing scent. However, certain chemicals used in air fresheners such as Phthalate can harm our fertility. So, keep a watch on the products you’re using, or even better, completely substitute these products with more natural scents and fresheners, such as flowers or essential oil based perfumes.

Conclusion

Home should be a completely safe and healthy place, as we spend most of our life at our homes. There is no harm in making a little effort to watch out and make our homes a little better. Cheers to the healthy homes.

Oh goodness...I had no idea that so many things at my place can harm me :O
Well, I better go burn my house down - it can't kill me if I kill it first :)

Exactly. There is no point of living clean and healthy if your environment isn't poisoning you. So many toxins from chemicals, pesticides, to molds and things like you said just making us sick, but we may never know it, thinking we're cursed... No you live in a toxic environment! So important. Great post.

and always organize your home furnishings

Very good information and recommendations. A good way to purify the air in you home is by having certain types of houseplants. Here is a link to a post I found that gives some more detailed information.
