Biology in term of science
Biology in the term of science
- Before knowing that is biology, we first have to know that what is science.
Science is the study in which observations are made, experiments are done and logical conclusions are drawn in order to understand the nature.
Not until 18th -century various aspects are studied under a single head but as the knowledge, it is divided into its five distinct principles which are morphology, biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics.
The word Biology is drived from two Greek words; Bios and Logos. Bios mean life and logos mean thought and reasoning. Biology is the scientific study of life. In other words, we can say that
“Biology is the branch of science which deals with all the aspects of living and non-living things and their interactions.”

There are three main branches of biology.
Botony: The branch of biology that deals with the study of plants.
Zoology: The branch of biology that deals with the study of animals.
Microbiology: The branch of biology that deals with the study of microorganism such as bacteria, algae etc.
To study in detail scientists divided these main branches.
Morphology: The branch of biology that deals with the form and structure of an organism.
Anatomy: The branch of biology that deals with the internal study of the organism.
Genetics: The branch of biology that deals with the study of genes which plays an important role in the inheritance.
Parasitology: The branch of biology that deals with the study of parasites (they live in host body take food and shelter from it and in return harm them).
Molecular Biology: The branch of biology that deals with the study of molecules of life like water etc.
Pharmacology: The branch of biology that deals with the study of medicines.
Human Biology: The branch of biology that deals with the study of human form and function, its way of living etc.
Social Biology: The branch of biology that deals with the study of social behaviour of a human with its environment and its interaction with the environment.
Evolution: The branch of biology that deals with the history of humanity that how a human is evolved.
Marine Biology: The branch of biology that deals with the study of seawater and the life which is present in the sea.
Freshwater Biology: The branch of biology that deals with the study of freshwater i.e; water bodies, lakes, rivers, oceans etc.
Zoogeography: The branch of biology that deals with the study of earth covered by the animals.
Histology: The branch of biology that deals with the microscopic study of tissues.
Interesting fact:
The common thing between marine water and fresh water is that both contain the salts in them but the main difference that separates the marine water from fresh water is marine water contains 35g of salts in 1liter while fresh water contains 0.4g of salts in 1 litre. So, fresh water contains 0.05% less salinity than marine water.
