I have never heard that Holi gets out of hand like that. I have only ever seen the fun pictures online, where everyone is smiling and it all looks pretty idylic. I suppose there are always those that over induldge on the holidays, I just am not familar with Holi so I thought it was more perfect than perhaps it is. It's just such a... photogenic... holiday!
