Hey, cool that you live in Philly! I am from the area and used to live there a few years ago. It seems as if you have a great attitude as well.
Here are my two off-the-beaten-path recommendations you may (or may not) want: If you drink, try going to "fiume" at 45th and Locust. It is a bar inside the abyssinia restaurant. It's like a bar in an attic that specializes in cocktails...odd/interesting. For a spot to eat (lunch or dinner), check out Kabobeesh - the owner calls it "Pakistani BBQ"... so I suppose that's what it is :)

I live in New Orleans. It's a bit dysfunctional, but everything good about it makes up for that!
