Southbound HWY 62 in Northern Cambodia (leaving Preah Vihear)
Riding through the mud on some Honda 250's, we came across this truck that was bogged down in the mud. Looks like they sheared the u-joint of the drive shaft...bummer as there was nothing for at least 75km in either direction... not a sign, not even a roadside shack.
Even faced with such an extreme problem, a smile still emerges... ask yourself if you'd smile if someone stopped to snap your picture when you were changing a tire on a smooth highway... yep.
It wasn't long after this that I ended up driving my bike into a large mud-pit which I didn't emerge from... the bike fell over and I had to drag it out as quickly as possible to save my somewhat protected camera gear. Lucked out when this group of guys showed up and drained the oil slurry of mud, water and oil from the bike... refilled the bike with fresh oil and helped get it running again by dragging it behind their 4-runner for a while.
Sadly, I think all of these roads are now paved and these sorts of adventures are harder and harder to come by... 'progress'... of course, for the locals it makes life easier. Though there's nothing easy about life in Cambodia.
Talk about a bad day
could've been a lot worse... I'll post a pic of my buddy with the long hair soon... his extra shirt got caught in the rear sprocket just before nightfall.
Ya , that would have been really bad !
