GENERAL DECLINE IN THE LEVEL OF DISCIPLINE AND MORALS IN OUR SOCIETY

As we are all aware that the major problem confronting our society as a whole is the general decline in the level of discipline and morals especially in Nigeria. Many folks have different views about morals and discipline, but from my own point of view, DISCIPLINE simply means the level of MORALITY imparted into an individual either by HIS/HER family, peer group or society while MORALS simply means good behavior. It is a pity that a society which other look up to in terms of morals and discipineis fast deteriorating.

This problem of decline in morals and discipline is not only limited to the youths and parents but also to our rulers and religious leaders. So many of them are dishonest. Can you imagine how a pastor could impregnate a sister in the church under the disguise of "I was instructed by the Holy Spirit to do so", or how could an illiterate become a president just because he could bribe his way through the authority? Government officials have neglected their duties rather they lay much emphasis on lavishing the society's money on cars and buildings.

The parents on their own pat have neglected their responsibilities of training and taking good care of their children. They lay much emphasis on material possession forgetting that riches without happiness is nothing. These neglected children especially the male are forced to go intk the society as touts, armed robbers or cultist as it is in my society today while the female take prostitution as a full time profession. Unemployed graduates are forced to do fraudlent business so as to survive. Even the employed, still do other shady business to augment their meagre salaries in order to make ends meet.

To really solve this problem, government should provide job opportunities for the masses most especially for the youth. Also, government should make the public officers declare their assets before assuming and after leaving offices.
Parents on their parts should give more attention to their children and also give birth to the number of children they can take care of. The youths on the other hand should keep away from bad company and anti-social acts.

The problems of general decline in morals and discipline would be over if these suggestions ate implemented.
