The pursuit of a memorable life

in #life7 years ago (edited)

Time cannot be held in a locker. There's no reset button pressing which we go back to the best times of our lives. But we do have memories, memories that give us perspective on our current situation.
One of the most famous quotes goes like this
"I don't regret the things I have done. I just regret the things I didn't do when I had the chance."
Truly, regret is one of those emotions, that reminds us of how many valuable opportunities, we’ve missed out.
So how do we make life memorable?
In a 2014 TEDx speech, innovation guru Dustin Garris, shares his mission with the audience, explaining a self-created concept of "life profit" with which aims to stands up against the monotony of everyday routine, adding more value to our lives in the process. Life profit is a term he uses to quantify value of our lives in terms of how many valuable memories we have with us.

We don't remember each and every detail of our lives, especially the routine ones. We only remember that excites us, scares us, embarrasses us, intimidates us. Looking back, we won't remember our test scores or how we were able to conform to the rules of society, we remember the times the classes we skipped, the most embarrassing speeches we gave. If we look carefully into history, we'll see that the world remembers rebels, not those who embraced the status quo. That, the size of our lives isn't measured by time we dwell on this planet, rather the times we remember.

In order to maximize life profit, we must train ourselves to move out of our comfort zone, and intersperse routine life with exciting new activities which might be as simple as going out on a trip, trying out a new cuisine. This is not to say we should ignore our responsibilities and dismiss the role of discipline, but that living every moment to the fullest benefits us in ways we’ll realize only in hindsight. At the end of the day, these are what brings a smile to our faces while reminiscing them. These are what makes them a story worth telling.
