Mountain lion of Costa Rica.

in #lion6 years ago

I saw this great feline in the Waterfall Gardens Park in Costa Rica. I was impressed by its large size.

From British Columbia in North America, to Patagonia in South America. Originally inhabited the entire national territory. It has now been exterminated in many localities and survives in large forested areas such as the Guanacaste National Park, the Arenal-Monteverde complex, the Tortuguero National Park, Corcovado National Park and the Amistad Biosphere Reserve.

The cougar hunts at night. It locates its prey by sight and smell, then crouches, cautiously approaches and throws itself on the prey before it can escape. It usually kills a bite at the base of the skull, drags its victim to a protected place and then devours it. The unused portion is covered with leaves, branches or any other available material. The main prey is the deer.

I just hope that this beautiful feline remains  protected by the government so that it continues to reign in the mountains.
