What the United States presidential candidates think about the Marijuana Policy Project.

On November 8th 2016 once again the people of the United States will choose which presidential candidate will govern.  You guys either get one of the worlds most hated person, Trump. Or a corrupt first female president with serious political experience!  

I recently went online to see what the views are for each of these candidates in regards to the Marijuana Policy Project. 

First we must understand what the policy really is. The official website’s mission and vision statements clearly tell us what they do.

What is the Marijuana Policy Project?

Mission Statement

• Increase public support for non-punitive, non-coercive marijuana policies.
• Identify and activate supporters of non-punitive, non-coercive marijuana policies.
• Change state laws to reduce or eliminate penalties for the medical and non-medical use of marijuana.
• Gain influence in Congress.

Vision Statement

MPP and MPP Foundation envision a nation where marijuana is legally regulated similarly to alcohol, marijuana education is honest and realistic, and treatment for problem marijuana users is non-coercive and geared toward reducing harm.

Earlier this year Hilary said on Jimmy Kimmel Live, March 24, 2016

“I think what the states are doing right now needs to be supported, and I absolutely support all the states that are moving toward medical marijuana, moving toward — absolutely — legalizing it for recreational use.

“What I’ve said is let’s take it off the what’s called Schedule I and put it on a lower schedule so that we can actually do research about it. There’s some great evidence about what marijuana can do for people who are in cancer treatment, who have other kind of chronic diseases, who are suffering from intense pain. There’s great, great anecdotal evidence but I want us to start doing the research.”

On the other hand, Trump also says that marijuana policy should be “up to the states.” But his has close ties with Chris Christie whom is an early Trump endorser and former U.S. attorney. Chris Christie is  one of the country’s most outspoken anti-marijuana elected officials, and could possibly be Trump’s attorney general.

Both candidates seem to understand the importance of the laws around Marijuana. Both seem to say they would leave it to the each individual state to decide. However Hilary Clinton would try to eliminate the classification of Marijuana as a Schedule I drug. Currently since it is a schedule I drug it is treated just like crack, coke heroin etc.. 

For the initiative to remove Marijuana from the Schedule I list, I that believe Hilary Clinton is the best option for the Marijuana Community.
