THE NEXT WAVE OF SOCIAL MEDIA*

in #media6 years ago

For many of us, interacting with others means a lot. We love to keep in touch with friends, invest in career opportunities and share content. Those who buy and sell constantly engage their customers, advertise and offer effective customer services. All these and many more are the possibilities we explore through social media.

Beyond the traditional media of television, radio and newspapers, social media are web-based tools for communication that helps us interact and share information. Importantly, these tools allow interaction---which can be as easy as giving your thoughts on the shared information. This is why most of us engage in photo/video sharing, social networking, social gaming and digital marketing on platforms like Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp and Instagram.

Businesses and the desire to meet human needs are the major reasons attaching millions of people to social media. As a result, the social media world keeps advancing every single day, interestingly, as smart phones emerge. It won't be so surprising if new waves of opportunities arise from social media in soon coming years.

Already, a new phase which is able to contain certain improvements in the social media world is opening up. We look forward to a phase where applications and networking sites would relate more to specific needs---for example, we would be able to communicate through our emotional states to bring a whole new dimension of interaction (as opined by Blanca Juti of Rovio entertainment). Also, we would engage in more basic mobile-friendly functions with highly prioritized privacy. Privacy---because most people love to control how their content and data are managed.

With the rise of new technological ideas, social media would advance into its next wave. More 'niche apps' (specialized applications with social networking for mobile devices) will exist. There is no limit to this wave. The only challenge, however, is to readily handle the problems that come with it.
