Why chilli peppers are spicy?

Most of you have already heard about capsaicin. It's the main compound of chilli peppers that causes the hot taste of the peppers. There is The Scoville heat index which is method for rating the heat of chilli peppers. The numbers are different and the maximum value is 16,000,000 SHU - but it's pure and undiluted capsaicin. Some people hate chilli because they feel nothing but spicy. Capsaicin can literally burn taste buds in some cases. Fortunately, these are cells with a relatively rapid generation capacity. The best way to quench such an extreme burn is to concsume full-fat milk. It's because capsaicin is able to bind to fat molecules.

Capsaicin health benefits

Researches at Nottingham University, in a study published in Biochemical and Biophysical Research, have shown that capsaicin can kill cancer cells. It has been discovered that capsaicin has positive effects on preventing metastasis.

Capsaicin is well known for its pain-relief effect. There are many pathces containing capsaicin in parmacies. The mechanism of action is unknow for now, but researches think that capsaicin is able to bind to receptors TRPV1, which then causes that brain releases a neurotransmitter called Substance P.
