Minnow Support by the numbers! 1/26/18

The Minnow Support Project would like to start providing some numbers going forward in terms of how the project is directly and indirectly supporting people, posts, and projects around the Steem block chain. Often times numbers can tell the progress of a story well. We'll try to update these every 2 weeks or every month.

msp-waves

msp-waves is a streaming internet broadcast network. It currently functions primarily as a radio station, but it's capable of broadcasting video as well as audio productions.

@msp-waves is the first of it's kind streaming internet station on Steemit. It holds account number 256,661. It was created on 7/12/17.

@minnowsupport Discord "Bot"

The Minnow Support Project maintains many Bots in Discord. Two are called @minnowsupport.

The original bot was created by @inertia and uses the Cosgrove framework similar to @banjo. The Minnow Support Project pays $100/month for a server and time to maintain this bot.

There is a second bot also called @minnowsupport that was recently created by @danielsaori, which is a rewrite and upgrade of the previous bot. Discovery around hosting and costs are still ongoing.

@followbtcnews (who co-runs the witness with @crimsonclad) provide a full RPC node for the community at large. These are nodes that allow various apps and programs to interface with the Steem blockchain. Witnesses and moderators for the Minnow Support Project agree to financially support their effort and endeavor. The price of the server largely depends on the cost of the server that's deployed and that cost changes over time as the blockchain grows in size.

New Potential Projects

The Minnow Support Project is accepting applications from Witnesses and Moderators within the projet to receive funding from @minnowsupport. We're setting up a process to receive funding applications from people outside of the witness and moderator group and that should be ready by early March. While the plan is subject to change it will likely involve a group to review applications, a sponser from that group to apply here on behalf of the applicant, and approval of the witnesses and mods for funding from @minnowsupport.

MSP-Curation Proposal

Every week, each of the 10 MSP Community Curators choose 5 posts to curate using the new MSP-Curation Account.

They also choose their favorite to be featured in the weekly Minnow Support Curation post.

The proposal is to split the SBD from that weekly curation post between all the curators for their weekly curation efforts. This can be done using the Steem-plus chrome extension.

As SBD and Steem increase in value and MSP continues to be rewarded in SP and SBD there remains a question of what to do with excess funds. This project entails taking some portion of funds after expenses are covered and using them to kickstart projects that support the mission of spreading the values of Peace, Abundance, and Liberty, helping grow the Steem ecosystem, and training and retaining minnows. Community ideas and projects will be taken to a team of witness, moderators and members for review and the best ideas will be presented at the mod meeting for funding review.
