All I see is cheese
One moment.
One focus.
One photo.
And one oozing cheese.
I have always wanted to learn how to do this where color is only focused at a certain part and everywhere else is monochrome.
And when I saw @marcoteixeira's posts - this and this - I was inspired to try.
And since I was thinking about this grilled triple cheese toast since yesterday, it felt like a very suitable experiment for me with this challenge for @marcoteixeira's 📸 MOMENTS IN FOCUS — PHOTO CONTEST #1 to showcase the oozing cheese.
I do have a confession though -- I asked for help online and followed a tutorial. @marcoteixeira suggested the GIMP application to do this challenge. I downloaded it and whoaaa... it had a LOT of features and functions. It took me quite some courage to attempt this. And while I followed the tutorial, it sorta worked but I still need to read up more what each setting means. I might write another post about it so that it forces me to read up 😅.
When there is a goal, there will be action 💪(hopefully).
And here is a quick summary of the photo technicalities following @marcoteixeira's style (well, sorta):
- Camera: iPhone 12
- Genre: Food photography
- Style: Selective color / Monochrome
- Edit tool: GIMP
- Summary of steps:
- Duplicated the image layer.
- Desaturated the top layer to make it monochrome.
- Added a white layer mask to the monochrome layer.
- Painted black on the cheese to reveal the color layer underneath.
- Boosted the cheese color.
Steps 3 and 4 were the most confusing ones for me.
But, I did it 🥳!

You could have also kept the toast in the toaster or painted it. I am curious what your cheese looks like before the formatting.

I had help with Gimp.. I wouldn't have figured it out on my own. There are just too many stuffs going on. I only know up to layers. After that, am all blur. But that is why it is powerful. There are many features and functions if we know how to use them.
