Day in the Life of a Marooned Data Scientist
Monday morning.
Stranded amidst a sea of cubicles.
Waiting for help to arrive.
Waiting for model to converge.
It's hard not to become hypnotized by the progress bars moving across the screen.
It's hard not to become hypnotized by the countdown of the loss function, ticking lower like slow drips of water from a leaky water cooler.
My can of Monster is almost empty and I must use what there is to power through my work.
There are commits to be made, tickets to close.
I glance across the floor. A flock of coworkers float about ominously. A meeting is on the horizon.
Yet, I all I can do is get lost in the numbers scrolling across the screen.
Hypnotized by slow ticking of the progress bar and the gradual countdown of the loss function.
