I also just checked out minds.com, would mind enlightening me a little about it's function? Right now I can gather that it is much like steemit with a strong focus on Freedom of Speech. If there is something there, I would like to write about it too!

Minds would work well as steem's twitter.
They are working on monetizing, but that has been in process since I joined in '15.
Until steemit came along that was were I was beating my drum.
The community there is pretty similar to here, trolls are not really tolerated, much.
